Runs loud when the compressor kicks in? Why?
Check vibration eliminators on the feet of the compressors, over time of running in tough conditions they wear out and cause rattling. If this does not fix the problem see below
-check amp draw, if amp draw is high windings are wearing out and compressor is running harder, may need replaced
- check to make sure your refrigerant charge is correct you could be slugging the compressor
-find other ways to isolate compressor operations

My Maytag air conditioner won't turn on.
The red light on this model indicates, like a dehumidifier, that the internal condensation "tank" is full. This unit normally discharges excess humidity through the exhaust vent. When humidity is excessive the unit cannot evapoate all the moisture out the vent pipe. There is a black rubber plug in the back bottom of the unit. Get a very shallow pan that will fit under the unit and pull the plug. After it has drained completely, run the unit on fan only to continue to dry out the internals. After 30 minutes or so, switch to cool and it should run. If the unit shuts off again after about 10 to 15 minutes, you have some sort of blockage that is causing the moisture to backup and trip the sensor. You will have to take the back off the unit and remove the blockage.

Blows hot air
If your machine is an air conditioner then the little hose needs to drain condensation to the outdoors. Most of the time there is a pump that the hose is attached to inside the unit. If the overflow switch is open the compressor contactor will not operate but the fan will.

Do you ever have to refill freon ever?
These types of appliances are not constructed in a serviceable manner. It is not practical to add refrigerant, since it requires evacuating the system, installing line taps and recharging to proper charge level. This can be done, but it would cost more than a new appliance. Almost all machines containing refrigerant lose some over time making them less efficient until they quit working.

Room temp stays at 76 and will not get any colder
Hi,
From what you are describing the unit is working perfectly...You just have alot of heat infiltration and the best that unit can do is 76....
If you want or need it cooler you will need to buy a larger size unit...

Besides the filter directly in the back of the
Hi, there are no inner filter to be clean, you did good job by cleaning coils at back, but you should try to clean evaporator or cooling coils, is possible you need to service it, remove it, strip it down cover all electrical parts, and give him a bath, power hose, then leave it to drain for about 2hr before putting it together, that should be done by trained mechanics, also you should check size of room, and AC b.t.u, it could be possible, your AC is not right b.t.u, you should check and make sure you have the right amount of b.t.u AC for size of room.
