Our Maytag dehumidifier is not

Several things can cause the problem you describe. Some have obvious solutions, others will require some troubleshooting on your part.

A dirty or clogged filter makes it difficult for the unit to function as it should.

The humidity extraction setting is set to high for the humidity level in your home. The lower the setting, the more humidity it will extract. 35 to 4% is an ideal setting to get started. If your unit does not have an LED display, you want to use the MINIMAL Setting.

Obstructed air flow around the unit. 12" Minimum free air space is required all around the unit.

The unit will not extract humidity.moisture if the ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 & 60 degrees F. Unless, you have what's called a low temperature unit.

If none of the above solved the problem, here's an in home test, to see if you need repairs: Move the unit to the bathroom, turn the unit ON set the humidity level at it's lowest setting. Turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Do not turn on the bathroom's exhaust or leave a window open. As you exit the bathroom, close the door and do not return for at least 20 minutes.

After returning to the bathroom, turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for 5 more minutes. Then check the bucket for signs of water. If you find any, the unit is working as it should. Which would indicate that one of the above issues, that you took care of, prior to the test was the problem.

If you didn't find any signs of water, either the Humidity Sensor/Condensor Switch has failed or the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant.

Now, here's the rub. The humidifier you have was not made by Maytag. It was manufactured by Fedders for Maytag and your model has been discontinued. There is a slim chance, that some parts may still be available, using the Fedders model Number. It's the same as yours. Just drop the M on the front. The best source for parts, that I have found is Appliance Factory Parts. If it's still available, they'll have it. http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/dehumidifiers/maytag/m7dh45b2a.html

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Dehumidfer in basement it runs

A dehumidifier works in a very similar manner to an air conditioner. The unit draws air across a set of refrigerated coils called a condenser. Moisture in the warm air collects on the cooled coils and drips down into the collection tray. There are several reasons why it wouldn't collect water. The first and simplest reason would be that there just isn't enough moisture in the air for it to collect.

The unit has a humidistat built into it that reads the moisture content of the air and tells the unit when to turn on or off. If the humidistat is malfunctioning, the unit might not turn on when it's supposed to.

The dehumidifier has a compressor. The compressor is one of the components that's used in the process of cooling the coils. If the compressor is not working, the coils won't get cold, and thus will not collect water.

The coils may have sprung a leak, thus leaking the refrigerant out. No refrigerant means the coils won't get cold.

Replacing any of the malfunctioning components can be costly and you would likely be better off replacing the unit, but if you want to see if maybe it's too dry for it to collect water, try putting a vaporizer or humidifier next to your dehumidifier and see if it turns on or starts collecting water then.

Was full - turned off

Try reinserting the bucket, making sure that it's positioned properly. So that the safety switch is engaged. If that still doesn't solve the problem. Turn the MASTER ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Wait 12 - 15 minutes and plug the unit back in. Turn the MASTER ON/OFF Switch to ON and hopefully, if the bucket is positioned properly, the unit will have reset itself.

Hope this helps you to solve the problem. Please let me know.

Dehumidifier indicates that it is

Look inside where the water reservoir sits, you should see a small float. This float triggers a switch that shuts the unit off when it gets full. You want to make sure that float is able to move freely (not caught up on the edge of the reservoir), and that it makes a "click" sound when you lift it up. If it's moving freely, but the unit still thinks it's full, you may have a faulty switch.

Emptied water, put container back

It's probably the bucket's trigger switch. It mat be loose or out of alignment. Remove the bucket and test it (trigger it) with the tip of a small flat blade screwdriver, to see if it will start. If it does, that's the problem.

There was a hose connected

Most likely the drain tube usually a garden hose connector on the condensation tank. My guess is the drain tube has broken free of the holding tank mabe from someone accedently pulling on it? That would explain the "bucket full message"
Take a real good look at the bucket at the rear of the unit see if something there is broken off. You can also look at the end of the hose to see if there is something in there, /my guess is that u need a new condensation collection bucket that will have the connection on it for the hose.

My dehumidifier runs and over fills the bucket

Sounds like it has a bad float switch of some sort. Unplug it and take it apart and see if you can find it. It may just be stuck in a position from some mildew or growth from being around and in water constantly

Oerational but no water collected

After running for 2 to 4 minutes, unplug it. Feel the two lines in and out from the compressor. The suction line (cool or cold) is twice as large as the high pressure line (very hot). If they are close to the same temp, you have lost some "freon" charge. Clean the evaporator coils of dust and dirt, that will prevent air flow and limit condensation.
