Compressor turn on briefly, no water collected
Sounds like the low pressure cutout switch is stopping your compressor running, especially if the "6 seconds" you mention are exactly the same length. Not enough refrigerant would be the usual cause, but the reason for the refrigerant loss is harder to tie down - possibly a seal or a loose valve seat or even a pinhole in a copper tube. Best solution now would be to take it to a refrigerator mechanic to top it up and check for leaks - get a quote first to check - 'fridge gas is getting costly.
Other possible solution is that the low pressure switch itself is faulty, relatively inexpensive to replace (but unfortunately you will need at least a partial gas recharge on most types of system after) - your fridge gas guy will be able to check very easily if there is adequate gas in the system, and should check this low pressure switch if there is not.
Connecting a drain hose
Most units have a drain connection, either on the machine itself, or in the collection pail. These connections usually fit standard garden hoses.
My Maytag dehumidifier filter doesn't ever get dirty why
Unless you have it installed in an especially dirty area, the filter hardly ever gets any appreciable accumulation of dust and dirt. The manufacturer turns on the clean filter reminder after so many hours of operation. Never is it indicative of detected dirt clogging filter. Just hit the filter reset button on the control panel

How do I know what year model portable dehumidifier I have?
Contact Maytag to ask.https://www.maytag.com/services/contact-us.html Check if it was recalled as were many dehumidifiers due to a fire hazard, as it did not appear in lists on the internet, but that is something to be certain about.FIXYA questions in 2010 suggest that model number was manufactured at least that many years ago.
