Upgraded firmware on coolpix 775 to ver 1.4 but now camera will not read 8gb card used to do update even though reformated in camera

On page 153 of the manual, still on line here: http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/CP775man.pdf It says : 25461063-prrdqssrdmrazwwkxujz54sw-5-0.png So perhaps you could us a card up to 2 Gbyte, but more will be a problem. Even with new firmware it could be the camera can't address more then 2 Gbyte cards. In the upgrade description (firmware is released in 2002 and the description last edited in 2007) it says you should use an in the manual approved memory card for the upgrade. So special for the upgrade don't use a huge card. Only after the upgrade try other cards, but be aware the modern cards all could fail to work in this camera

Hi there, I have been unable to downloadmy

Hi,

Nikon View 4 software is required to connect and download the pictures from the camera to a computer. The software can be downloaded from Nikon website by clicking here

An alternate and easy method to download the pictures from the camera to the computer is by using a memory card reader. (You can use your computer's built-in memory card reader, if it has one, or you can purchase an external memory card reader as shown in the attached image).
6250fe3.jpg

To do this, kindly remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a card reader.
Connect the card reader to the USB port of your PC (if you are using an external card reader).

Now, the memory card will be shown as a "Removable disk" in "My Computer". You can browse the images and copy the images to your computer.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.

My nikon 775 just won't start even after i put in

Hi

The Nikon Coolpix 775 can be powered using a EN-EL1 rechargeable battery or a disposable 2CR5 type battery (Panasonic, Duracell, Maxell etc). If you are trying to use an EN-EL1 you may want to try using a 2CR5 - this would prove if the battery charger you are using to charge the EN-EL1 battery is working correctly.

You can also try and check if the contacts inside the battery compartment are clean - the camera is quite old and there will normally be some dirt deposits after that length of time.

Hope this helps.

How do i get the

You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Scroll buttons stopped working

These cameras do tend to stop in their tracks such as yours did. A capacitor has gone bad in yours. The cost to repair it out weighs the cost of a similar camera

System Error

I had the same problem. It was because the lens had just begun to retract and then jammed. I tried pushing back it in to no avail. I was considering it was time for a new camara anyway. Hoping to get a little more life out of it, with nothing to lose I was about to take it apart to see if I could clean out any obstruction as other posts had reccommended. Before I did that, I let my Mr. Goodwrench cousin take a look at it. Instead of trying to force the lens back in, he pulled it out. Apparently the slight play in the lens allowed him to do so and whatever was jamming the lens from retracting must have fallen out. Suddenly, the lens retracted and the camara is working fine. So before you throw the camara away or take it apart, try pulling out on the lens housing. You may also have to move it slightly back and forth while pulling out to get whatever is jamming the lens to move out and away releasing the lens to retract again.

The lens cover does not open all the way. I have

It is either bent or has grit and dirt in between the slides. Try using canned compressed air, such as you use to clean a computer keyboard with, to blow air between the slides. If that does not work, even though you will have to be very careful, while the lens cover is closed put a single drop of WD40 on the cover and spread it with a Qtip over the entire cover surface. Holding the camera, front facing down, try turning it on and off several times. If that frees the lens cover, turn the camera off and wipe the surface of the closed lens cover with a soft tissue to clean the WD40 from the surface. Make sure then that your lens is clean before using the camera. If the lens cover is bent, then none of this will work.

Camara says memory card full, yet when i transfer no pictures

Have you initialised the cards before use? if not you can do that by formatting the cards through Windows. Try it and see if that works. Use NTSC Format.

Sometimes when I try to

Hi

You might want to open the cam by carefully unscrewing all of the tiny screws. Then I took apart the two shells. I found grains of sand obstructing the lens motor gears, that I cleaned off with one of those small brushes found in camera lens cleaning kits. Getting to the grains loged inside the jammed gears required me to use a charged battery to activate the camera repeatedly until the lens started moving little by little until all grains of sand were removed and the lens could go in and out of the camera. After doing this, I can admit that this camera is not made for the beach. The casing has a multitude of openings that welcome unwanted particles.

Thanks
