Overexposed outdoor pictures

I'm not familiar with this particular camera as I'm a keen photographer only, but usually you have chosen either to fast an ISO (i.e. 800 or 1600) or you have too much light entering the lens (sensor) in other words the automatic exposure is turned off manually or there is a fault, check first the menu options. as a rough guide you should have the ISO set around 200 - 400 the aperture set around F6.3 to 8 with a shutter speed at 200 ish, all this depends on the brightness of the day but if you have auto exposure on which every new camera would have these days then that is all taken care of. GOOD LUCK

I have a kodak Z612 can you replace the LCD

Yes. There is a website called virtualvillage dot com that has screens for most Kodak cameras. They only cost about a third as much as compared to buying from Kodak. It only takes about half an hour to change it and only simple handtools are needed, nothing special.

My screen is also black and will not do anything.

If the display is black in all function modes then your LCD screen is likely dead. If you can still use the display as a viewfinder and/or to review pictures, chances are that your lens is stuck in the closed position. There is no safe DIY fix for either condition -- the camera will require professional repair. But, before you panic or spend any money on repairs, your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

I purchased a PNY 4GB SDHC memory card to use with

You simply insert the memory into the camera, switch it on, go to the menu and then scroll through to Format and then accept. This will then take a few minutes and format the memory for use in the camera. Make sure that the batteries are fully charged before doing this.

Z612 will not format an SD card... 1GB???

Your camera has been designed to work with SD cards up to 1GB but in my experience there are often compatibility issues with different brands of SD cards especially when they're right on the limit of what the camera can handle.

You've said what batteries you've tried, but they will not affect how your camera behaves when trying to format an SD card.

I'd recommend first trying to reformat the card in an external reader (you may have to try reformatting in FAT 16 and then in FAT32 to see if it makes a difference: alternatively contact Kodak to ask which one to use as they don't say which in the published technical specs for your model). If this doesn't work then my next suggestion is to try a previously unused (i.e new) example of another brand of SD card; as they're so cheap you may want to do that anyway. You're safest to assume that a Kodak branded card will work, and SanDisk are also very widely compatible on "problem" devices. If either of these cards do not work then you'll find that the manufacturers are both very supportive in trying to resolve your issue, although ultimately you may discover that you actually have a faulty camera.

My camera was dropped and now the images come out

I have seen this happen many times. There still is hope, but its also possible that you camera is trashed, so just be patient and bear with it. I fixed my own camera by going into the menu and finding the settings for formatting the memory card and also for resetting the camera back to the "factory default' settings. This fixed my camera. Also remove the battery and memory card and reinstall and turn off and on again and see if the lines are gone. I'm not sure why, but when the camera acts up, it often helps to take out the memory card and replace it, pushing it in further against the spring tension. It's seems almost as if when mine got dropped, it is not as able to get as good of a connection to the memory card. I hope this helps you, please let me know. Thanks.

Kodak z612 camera now underexposes

Check your settings. You probably have something set on manual control. Just set the camera's settings for automatic and you should be good to go.
