MSI : MS-7061-020 VIAKM400/A&V&L/SATA Motherboard (MOT73) Questions & Answers
Sir,
i have an msi n1996
I enabled SATA support on my BioStar M7VIZ-SATA MOBO (it is km400 and 8237r, like yours) by first installing the VIA SATA RAID drivers. At this point, Windows recognized the device controller but not the 120GB drive. The problem was that the system doesn't support "newer" SATA drives, so I installed a jumper on the disk drive to set it to "150" mode... SATA version 1 compatibility. After that, Windows immediately recognized the drive and mounted the filesystem.I think it was a Western Digital drive. Other manufacturers have a different name for the same jumper. Also, I read that one type (Samsung?) can only be set to the old SATA standard by getting the drive running in a SATA 2 environment, then using a utility program to adjust the drive's microcode setting.Good Luck to you.

I need to know where
Can you go to the MSI website and download the manual, looking at your motherboard usually it can be found at the bottom of the motherboard, usually the right side, also you should see small abbreviations of the connection relative to the pins they are associated to. If you need more help just ask. Thanks Rick.

Just a couple of suggestions to get you started.
Make sure the 4pin cpu connector is plugged in, and the memory is properly seated. Please post back if the problem is unresolved.

Ms-7061 msi motherboard will not install win xp with sata drive
The problem is that your version of XP does not have SATA drivers and therefore does not recognise your new drive. Vista does.
If you Google the problem you will find many solutions on how to rectify the situation.
Basically, you have to make a floppy disc with the correct drivers for your Motherboard's hard drive controller. Then, when you launch your Windows XP installer, it will ask you a question about needing to install 3rd party drivers. Yes is your answer. Tap F6 to ensure that the installer doesn't skip.Insert the floppy disc and then after the drivers are loaded, the installation will proceded normally.
The other alternative is to leave your existing XP installation in place and add the new disc.
Later you can clone your old disc onto the new drive and then remove your original disc.
