My drive cannot play any kind of disc, insert disc

Hi,
There could be a lot of reasons why your drive is not working properly. It could be that there is a service from your burning software that is not running properly thus affecting the CD-ROM. If you have any of these software, try un-installing them.
You can also try this for an automated fix from microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems
Read and follow the instructions.

Hope this helps.

How resolve issues with your Optical Drive that does read or write CDs or DVDs

This is a bit complicated so we have to be very careful in doing so. The main goal that we have is to Delete the Upper and Lower Filters on your registry, and that's what makes it complicated.

To start with
>Click on START
>Type REGEDIT on the search bar on START Menu
>Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
>Expand SYSTEM
>Expand CurrentControlSet
>Expand Control
>Expand Class
>Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
>Look for the Upper Filters / right click on it / click on Delete
>Look for the Lower Filters / right click on it / click on Delete
>Restart computer
>Try you CD / DVD ROM

I hope it helped you out. Rating my assistance will greatly be appreciated. Should you have any followup questions feel free to post it here and I always get back to my resolutions. Thank you for choosing FixYa! Have a good one.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron

how long is the whole process of burning the dual layer dvd's
your computers hard drive might be getting to hot
try blowing out all of the dust from your laptop computers keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines. dust causes static which causes lots of unforseen problems with a computer and its parts also you might buy a laptop usb 3 fan cooler pad just to keep things cool/er you might check the leads ((motherboard to hard drive)) they might be bad/faulty hope this helps

My drive is disabled and I don't know how to

Do you find the green light glow if you press the eject button ? If No, First step is to Turn off the PC and disconnect the power cable from wall outlet and you will have to open the CPU Tower Cover and check the cables and firmly connect them again. this must be because of loose connection. Do Not attempt to do this if you are minor and for others, Do it at your own risk if you can.

Ron

My burner will not burn

The CD Burner / Player / DVD Burner are all different heads. If the Dell Inspiron E1705 is an older model it is most likely you have reached the end of it's usable life for the CD burner part. If it is new the CD burner is most likely defective and hopefully warrantied. Otherwise these CD/DVD units can be replaced relatively inexpensively (as compared to buying a new laptop).

The drivers say having no issues but when I place

What type of CDs/DVDs have you tried?

You can also try to reseat the cable of the CD drive inside the CPU.

IF you're familiar on how to use the Registry Editor you can try this solution:

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start Collapse this imageExpand this imagevistastartbutton.jpg, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

Collapse this imageExpand this imagesecurityshield.jpg If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
  3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Note After you remove the UpperFilters registry entry and the LowerFilters registry entry, you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs. If the problem recurs, contact the program vendor to determine whether an update is available for the program.

Nec dvd+-rw nd-6650a stop burning dvds

It's time to replace the defective (and probably warranty-expired) unit.

If your computer is a notebook, not a desktop, it's best to take the computer to a qualified technician, to disassemble your computer, and replace the drive.

No. Formatting your PC will not change your IP Address if it is set to automatically obtain it. Your router's DHCP server will allocate the same IP Address your computer is using.
