Fire wire is old and never competed with USB. They may be able to transfer data, but you probably fried your camera. Possibly due to older USB format.

I don't have a manual of the D1 (they are still online for free with Nikon) so In a detail I could be wrong, But when setting up the delay time for monitor off, you can select monitor off. Check n the settings (C5 or so) if you selected a delay time, or accidentally choose for monitor off.

arceye 10 is right. Once the lens is attached to the camera body, make sure that the aperture ring is turned all the way up to the largest number (usually 22). To do this, hold the camera with the lens pointing away from you, and turn the aperture ring clockwise.

hello jay... turn it on and go into the menu and find a function called reset. Reset it. then check it out. Generally this reset will solve the problem. That said, if the problem is still there you should not open up the camera mechanism yourself as this will void the warranty. instead, go to nikon.com and involve there service department if it is less that 3 years old. OR take it to your local camera shop for a repair. Joe

Sounds like you have a 10 year old camera but no owner's manual. You can download a copy to your computer from the Nikon website.

There may be something wrong with the camera. Make sure it is set to Single Exposure setting and not Multiples. There should be a control on the top left to change this. Look for an "S". this is what you want. If that doesnt help, you may need to get it repaired.

You might not believe this but the biggest CF card for that camera was a 128mb. So I'd say it's time for you to update the camera firmware on the Nikon site it's painless and "Free".
