I have a Mytag wide-by-side with a broken ice

Rotate the clip 90 degrees and there are slots that allow it to be pulled through the freezer wall. It may be really tight due to the adhesive behind the wall of the freezer. The new clips are only $4-8 each depending on where you get them.

Maytag MZZD2766GE side by side refrigerator:

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

This is caused by a clogged evaporator drain that is item 5 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=47966
It can be clogged either in the funnel area or at the end of the tube underneath the refrigerator.
Item 5 catches water from item 14 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=47966&diagram_id=28494316#d28494316

Your evaporator drain is clogged. (how to clear it)

  • Unplug the unit remove the freezer contents and do a manual defrost by directing an external fan at the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so be prepaired) This is a must do!
  • Remove the rear fiber-board compressor and condensor coil cover and locate the compartment drain tube in the drip pan. Make sure the end of the tube is NOT blocked. Clean as necessary.
  • After the 2 hour period... use vacuum forced air OUT pressure on the end of the drain hose in the drip pan. Have a 2nd person listen for airflow in the freezer compartment. This will float out any debris from the compartment drain funnel.
  • Clean the condensor coils and fan while the unit is unplugged but do NOT use anything sharp.
If you can not get air-flow up through the compartment drain funnel underneath the evaporator coils you will have to remove the access panel and remove the debris from the drain funnel.

Return the unit to normal service after cleaning. Watch for more ice build up after a week. No ice blocks after a week... no worries. Ice under the ice-maker... replace the inlet water valve due to it bypassing water when in the OFF mode.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

The front of the center interior divider gets warm

It's usually caused by the condenser fan which is underneath around back. If it's not running when the compressor runs it will cause the problem you describe. You will need to remove the cardboard backing on the back of the fridge to access the fan.

Freezer drain may be blocked.

. If the freezer is always icing up , you probably have the problem in your defroster circuit . The refrigerator cycles once every six to eight hours into the defrost mode . This is controlled by the defrost timer. when in this mode , a heating element located close to the evaporator heats up and melts the ice. This heating element will heat up any ice enough to melt It and drain out of the unit. I would check this first .

Your model has something called an
Auto Damper between freezer and fresh food compartment. Click here for a
photo=> MZD2768GES Controls part
listed as number 8 in that photo part=>
61005991 Damper Control Assembly and your ADC adaptive defrost control=>61005971Adaptive Defrost Control
and that is part 13 in the photo above inside the control panel in fresh food
compartment. Either of one of those fail and ice will build up behind freezer
wall to the point of either no defrost to erratic defrost. Here is a link here
that shows a short movie of what no defrost causes=> HERE. I have the service
manual but am no longer to post it here because now Whirlpool owns Maytag and
they have become very strict about publishing on-line yet I do communicate with
Whirlpool and can assist you one on one through contacting me here or my web
site. Sounds like you have a defrost drain blockage also but that will be no
problem once we find the root cause. Is the rear wall of freezer showing a
frost line building up? Please feel free to contact me and I will be glad to
assist you and if it is something I cannot post here I can assist you through
Whirlpool, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Why I found water at

most likely the drain is blocked.remove the draws or bins from the freezer, you might have to use a hair dryer to melt out the ice so you can remove the bottom bin.at the bottom of the back panel there's a drain hole where the water that melts when in defrost drains down is blocked and now the water overflows on the freezer floor and sometimes out onto the kitchen floor,if you don't see an opening at the bottom of the back panel then remove the panel to get at the drain hole.melt out any ice with hair dryer, next you have to clear out the drain,i use a steemer to blow through whatever is blocking the drain,if you don't have a steemer you can try a baster or anything that will blow air through the drain, you can stick a thin screw driver in the hole and heat the metal on the screw driver and it will cut through the ice down in the hole then try the baster to blow through, when you think you cleared the drain, pour hot water down the hole,if it goes down you're done,if not keep at it until water drains down the hole, unplug the machine or shut down the control,if you don't warm air will get into the air vents and freeze up and you'll have another problem on your hands.good luck

ICE MAKER NOT WORKING

Hi

Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

Also check the link bellow to get a detailed idea to troubleshoot your problem:-

Freezer cold, Refrigerator is warm,

The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the refrigerator section and the refrigerator section gets cold.---------- But you mentioned that refrigerator/fridge section is warm and freezer is getting cold. This indicates the problem is with cold air not passing from freezer to fridge section.Either the ventilation from where this cold air from freezer to fridge goes is blocked or the fan in freezer section is not running.Due to this the ice starts getting collected on the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is at the internal section of freezer. If too much ice gets collected then this ice blocks the fan in the freezer section from functioning and this blocks the ventilation section with ice getting collected there. ---------------- So first before replacing any part in the unit, try manual defrost reset procedure.First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If the same problem occurs then it's defrost problem. The defrost board and the defrost thermostat/heater is not functioning properly and it has to be checked and replaced.------------------ Also you mentioned that you require procedure to disassemble the unit.So yes this procedure is available.Just click on the link below and it has all the part disassembly diagram shown with each section.Just click on link below:---- http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-MZD2766GES/3048/0165000?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=MZD2766GES ------------------ But before ordering any part try manual defrost reset procedure and see the difference in the problem. If its still the same then you can go for part disassembly.------------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

WHERE A PLASTIC PIECE PULLS IN THE COMPRESSOR

The freezer control will normally make a ticking noise when starting and stopping the compressor. If it is clicking on and off in abnormally short intervals, you could have a component failure that needs a technician's attention.

The overload on the compressor will also make a clicking noise when it trips. If this overload is tripping, the refrigerator and freezer will normally not be cooling properly. This lack of cooling may take several days to appear.
