Unfortunately when hard drives get to this state they are usually toast and if working at all on their last leg. You may be able to recover some of your data using a professional service otherwise a new hard drive is in order.

If you have a spare USB cable try that. If it still doesn't get detected, try it on a different computer. I would like to ask if you are using a HDD enclosure? If you are, then try using a different one if you or a friend have a spare. Otherwise it just points to hardware failure.

You may have the hard drive partitioned into two or more partitions.
Delete all the partitions and create a single partition and then format this single partition on the hard drive.

Get the hard drive replaced. It was probably damaged during shipping.

Most likely, hard drive failure.
If a portable, re-seat the drive, then reset the bios defaults, and see if the hard drive is detected.
If a desktop/Tower, re-seat the cable connections to the drive and the motherboard, reset the bios and see if the drive is detected.
If the "Noise" from the drive is a grinding sound, a repeating Click, or a laser sound similiar to a star wars movie then almost guaranteed drive failure.

You can use c:>fdisk/mbr ( in dos mode )
Try to partition in dos mode
And format in dos mode,

if it is unable to be formatted as well, the hard had failed and there is nothin that can be done about it, i have had a few fail on me and it isnt pleasent, i hope there wasnt anything important to you on it :/

your hard disk is defective and can no longer be use.

you could run the check disk utility click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive or click start control panel administrive tools,computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now,start should schedule this task when restart do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer hope this helps

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

To fix the HDD. Take these steps.

First, click to open the Computer, by clicking on the "Computer,"
on your "Desktop Screen" or click on the "Start Button.
In the (right shortcut menu), select to open the Computer, by {right} clicking on it.

• Check to see if there's a Hard Drive (C:)
• If the area is (Blank)?
• Go to and select Control Panel, by clicking on the Start Button.
• Scroll to find the"Hardware and Sound category, and click on it to open.
• Next, scroll, and select the "Device Manager."
• In the [Device Manager]; check to see: if there is a [Disk Drive] Icon?
• You need to "Update the Drivers."
• Open the "Disk Drive" by {2x clicking} on it.
• Select the {Driver Button}, click on it to 'start the update.'
• Follow all the instructions!.

"Remember to click on the Apply and OK buttons when finished!"

• Restart the Computer, afterwards. to fix the 'problem.

Is the drive listed? If so, right-mouse click on it, and "initialize" it.
Click to "create partition", which will assign a drive-letter.
Open "My Computer", and an icon for it will appear.
