Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Found this information for a Samsung unit with the same internal components experiencing the same problems. http://www.fixya.com/support/t194959-display_sound. I know this drove me nuts so hopefully it will help others.

when you turn it on, hold the power button until it has fully loaded

Look for firmware upgrades in Samsung's website.

You have to download a set of files, burn them on to a CD or DVD (check the help file in the download) and then insert the CD or DVD to your DVD Player and follow the on-screen instructions. It is really simple, just make sure you download the correct upgrade from the website. And one advice, use a RW DVD or RW CD because you may have to try it many times ;) .

well were is tv sound comming from charter dish or ect ?
or uusing teh dvd player try menu in sound change it from pcm audio to biitstream if u can

you have to hook up seperate audio cables for the tv you may have to set onto aux mode for your tv

it may have something to do with parental control

Protection is caused by a short , a bad voltage, or a component that has blown.

Unplug power cable, if you still get protection, then the unit is faulty.

I rember reading an article stating that the HDMI does not suppory audio

check connections to bass module amp. and ensure that it is powered on and turned up . no blown fuses or loosely connected cables. to and from amp. especially those to stellite speakers.

So you want to connect your red and white cables from your satelite box output to the receiver's auxillary inputs or TV inputs.

OR

Red and White from your satelite output to an input on your TV, then another red and white from an output on your TV to the recevier. This way you can have sound from the TV and use the receiver when you want things to get louder. You also need a yellow single connector from the satelite to the TV to carry video. If you are using a coax cable from your satelite to your TV then you are cheaping yourself out of picture quality.

Yeah I have a problem, my lcd display is not working no more is there a part for it ? or do I have to send it for repairs? The only way I can make it work is with the remote, with out it is useless

Check to ensure the Home Theater is outputting the digital audio via the optical cable.

On the rear of your TV connect, with a phono/RCA cable to the Audio R + L sockets, connect the other ends to your Yamaha using the TV in sockets. See photos attached Hope that helps. HDMI is for video unless the extra pins are added for audio.
