This should be repairable. It may be the LVDS Cable or the Main board problem. The only other problem is the T-Con Board.

The display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
Hope ya fix it!

Samsung TV won't turn on- trying to fix it. A challenging problem

Dear Zjut,

Help needed on fixing a Samsung LCD TV (LN-S4051D). The 1.5 year old TV won’t turn on. There is no picture or sound. When plugged in, a click sound was first heard followed by the red LED light blinking 4 times (next to the power button on the panel). Then the click sound came back again with 4 blinks of the LED light. The whole thing went into a cycle while the power button on the panel and the remote are not functioning.

I did some research and followed the suggestions on a “similar” problem brought on this forum. I replaced the IP board (power board) with a new one. The problem still existed. Then I checked all the capacitors on the PCB board (the main board) and found no blown ones. My question is that what is the real problem of the TV, and if it’s worth to spend another 300 dollars to replace the PCB board. (I already spent over 100 bulks on a new IP board). BTW, the TV cost me 1300 dollars when I bought it. Thank you.

I had the same problem. I live in NJ and called the local authorized "service provide" listed on the Samsung website. What a joke. Quoted $350 just to show up, never showed up. So I opened my own TV. Took off the plastic back (10 screws) took off the large metal RF shield (12-14 screws) and noticed a blown component. The markings on the component were KL15L and it is apparently an NTC Thermistor. Obviously it got fried and not knowing if there was other damage I decided to set out to replace the entire Power PCB Board Assembly and not the component. There were two part numbers on the assembled board (BN97-00457E & BN94-00622E). After searching online I also found a suitable replacement number for these (BN96-04896A). I found two places who claimed to have the part or have it on order (shopjimmy.com and vancebaldwin.com). After placing orders with both and having neither come through, I broadened my search and found out that the LNR409D was basically the same model as my LNR408D so I looked for its Power PCB Board Assembly part number which turned out to be BN41-00521B. Google search for that part number showed the item available on ebay. I bought it a week ago (ebay 260311519904) for $144 plus $12 shipping. I removed the bad board an hour ago (6 screws about 7 connectors) installed the new one, plugged in the connectors, replaced the covers, plugged in the TV... AND IT WORKS!
Suggestion: If your TV is out of warranty then open it up (what have you got to lose) and see if the problem is obvious and maybe something you can fix (replace) yourself. The parts, spare boards, etc. are out there if you look.

Check the solution by billn352: $7 Fix! It Rocks!
billn352 even has the cost of the replacement capacitors correct! Thanks guy!

When my Samsung quit six months ago, the three solutions posted on FixYa were (1) Pay $300+ parts and $200+ labor to have it fixed, (2) Do #1 then rag Samsung until they repay you for the defective circuit board and (3) Get another TV and avoid getting stuck eith yet another defective circuit board. I chose to buy a 47" Phillips at Wal-Mart. I don't feel like paying big bucks every 18 months to keep the Samsung alive. I put the Samsung in the closet and took my lumps.

This month I revisited the solutions on FixYa and found the post by billn352! A $7 FIX and it Works!.

I pulled the Samsung out of the closet, laid it on a padded table, removed the plastic back (lotsa screws!), located the capacitors and removed the circuit board (more screws). The four capacitors are easy to locate. At least three of mine had black **** oozing out of the top of the cans. I ran down to the strip shopping center and got the four replacements at Radio Shack--under $7 with tax.

The capacitors are polarized (they have a positive and a negative lead) and I have a buddy who loves to solder and drink beer. So I asked him to do the hot stuff, assisted by a copy of the billn352 post to further identify the capacitors by component number and a six-pack of Miller Lite. Yes, the replacement capacitors are larger than the originals and Yes they fit nicely! So easy that a "drunk redneck" can do it!

I also checked the current prices for this model Samsung on the Internet. On one list, a new unit was offered for less than $400. Most I found were in the $500-$900 range. Give it another year and what do you think these sets will be worth! A $7 fix is worth doing: Maybe a $400 fix is not.

I had the same problem. I work for a mother board manufacturer w/offices in New Jersey and brought mine into our engineering lab after Samsung told me tough luck. Anyway, one of my engineers fixed it in 10 minutes. Essentially, he replaced the 1000uF capacitors on the power supply board with 2 cent capacitors instead of the 1 cent capacitors that had blown out on the CHEAP SAMSUNG POWER SUPPLY BOARD. You can tell the caps are blown via visual inspection. The top of the cap should be perfectly flat and a blown cap will be convex on top. Unfortunately, there are also 2500 uF caps by the same cheap manufacturer on the board as well and we don\'t stock that value for our products. According to my engineer, those will most likely blow next since he replaced the others with better caps, but I\'m getting samples of those and will replace them shortly. After that this piece of junk should last me at least another 2 yrs! It\'s been working for about a week now w/no problems. Hope this helps.

SAMSUNG PROBLEMS - Red and Green Shading All Over Screen

This problem has gotten progressively worse on the TV. It began as a small amount of reddish blobs appearing in certain parts of the picture.

Now if the TV is on for more than a couple minutes, almost the entire screen becomes covered in red and greenish shading/snow/noise.

It seems likely that Samsung purposely only gives a one-year warranty on the TV because it was known this would happen shortly after one year.

After writing to Samsung multiple times, they still offer no solution. They suggested unplugging the TV for five minutes and trying again. We can leave the TV unplugged for days and then when plugged in and turned on, almost the entire screen is red within five minutes. Please help!

I had the same problem with my LN32A450. The red standby light would flicker off every 5 seconds or so and the TV would not turn on. The problem was with the power supply board. When the light flickered this way, the standby power read 5.05V on the voltmeter instead of the required 5.2V. The problem lies in one of the solder joints in the standby power regulator.
You can fix this yourself if you have enough skill. Pull the board and reflow the solder on the SMT component joints with rosin (or your favorite flux, but clean it off afterwards). The SMT components are on the bottom side of the board. I ended up resoldering the joints from the first stage step down converter all the way to standby power filter cap and the feedback circuitry, including the main power regulator and everything in between, thru-hole parts too.
Check for bulging caps while you are there and replace.
