Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD Recorder Questions & Answers
My Cyberhome DVR 1600 is dead.
If it is powering up it is NOT the power supply that is at fault. If the door won't open it is likely the belt that moves the tray.
Unplug the unit and remove the screws holding the case shut.
On the left side you will see a metal plate that is the top hold down for the DVDs.
Remove the four screws and pull up on the plate. There will be some resistance as the top spinner is held in place to the spindle by a magnet.
Plug in the unit but DO NOT touch anything on the right side where the power comes in!
Power on the unit and hit the eject button. If the tray slides out now you are partly in luck.
With the tray ejected unplug the power.
Partially push in the tray and look along the front. You will see a small pulley (motor) and a large pulley. There will be a "rubber band" looking drive belt there. Likely that drive belt is dry rotted.
Getting one is the trick. I'd suggest rescuing one from an old CD/DVD drive from a computer.
Cant get unit to power on?
HELLO
This comes as no surprise to me at all! I have had loads of these pieces of junk through my hands in the last 2-3 years and I can tell you now that it will be a problematic power supply.
Do you require spares for this unit? FORGET IT! These things are not designed to be repaired, they were built in China to a price and Cyberhome do not exist anymore.
Do yourself a favour and bin it! There are much better and more reliable DVD recorders out there!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
