How to remove write protection on lash drive

Hi,
OK – after an hour or so of faffing around :knock: , I think that I have found a possible solution tongue.gif . The problem seems to be something to do with Microsoft’s SP2 dead.gif !
Here’s what worked for me (sorry for the Idiot’s Guide approach, but I used to :hotbounce hate it :hotbounce when I used forums and couldn’t understand what the technobabble meant!):

- Start > Run > type ‘regedit’ (without the speachmarks) > Enter
- Single-click on ‘My Computer’ > File > Export > save it to the Desktop (Always best to have a backup!!)
- Go to the following:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDeviceP olicies
*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*
- Double click on the string ‘WriteProtect’ and change the ‘Value Data’ box to ‘0’
- Then: File > Export > save somewhere useful as something like ‘StorageDevicePolicies001.reg’
- You also need to do this for the strings in any folders called ‘ControlSet***’ (* = any Digit, i.e. 001, 002) – for example: Everything is the same, just change ‘CurrentControlSet’ to ‘ControlSet***’
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\StorageDevicePolic ies
*There seems to be some spaces here in 'StorageDevicePolicies' in the text above, there shouldn't be, OK*
- Save these to the same place as before as ‘StorageDevicePolicies00*’

The saves are in case it reverts at a later date, just double click (saying ‘yes’ to importing these to the registry) on all of the files and it will all work again!

It still displays the message: The disk is write

Check the players settings for USB or MODE and reset the setting for MSC mode...
MSC mode will work out of the box with just about any MP3 player and any OS (W*ndows Linux). MTP mode will work as long as you have WMP 10 or 11 installed. Firstly, I will try to explain MSC mode and MTP mode and what they mean.
MSC stands for Mass Storage Class. When your player is in this mode, the computer will see it the same way it would see a Thumb drive or flash drive2_bing.gif, as a removable disk. It will assign the first available drive letter to your device, as well as one for the memory card2_bing.gif (if it uses one and it is installed). This is probably the more popular of the 2 modes, and is a more "open source" type of standard. Mostcomputers detect the player in this mode without a problem very well and right away.

MTP stands forMedia Transfer Protocol.

> Click Start Button > Start Search - type in (regedit) (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies) Step by Step: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --System --CurrentControlSet --Control --StorageDevicePolicies +++++++++++++++++++++++
The value 'WriteProtect' should be absent or set to '0'.

Upon turning on my ilo

ok if the computer says it caanot reconise the player 9 times out of ten right there its bricked!! Bricked means that there is no communications in or out of this unit or better put no two way data communications "bricked".

What you can do but might not be worth the effort is run Spinright on it. Spinright can be found at www.grc.com but your look at a cost for the program. But what you got here if it cannot be recognized by the computer is more then corruption the unit is bricked and will not likely respond to anything, To tell you the truth here and nothing but facts if its more then 1 year old its not worth the save.

Thanks I hope this helps because it sure looks like you been threw a slew of techs!

Want to add different music delete the music I have

Most of the mp3 players out there are compatable with Windows Media Player on your pc. Open WMP and then connect your mp3 player to your pc. If it is compatable it will recognize it. From here you can delete any songs that show up on your mp3 player and also add to it from your library that you build in WMP. The manufacturer may also have software for it but if it does work with WMP I would stick with that. Hope this helps ...

How to put sngs in mp3 player

You need to connect to your PC using the cable supplied and the USB port. When connected the player will appear in "My Computer" as a removable drive, if you don't see it, press F5. Select the mp3 songs you want to upload and copy them them to this drive just as though it was a folder on your computer.
