Maytag MMV5165 Microwave Oven - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Magnetron part help
The service manual is
here, and the support page with exploded view and parts list is
here.
The original Amana / Whirlpool part number was
53001594 but it is no longer available. Another matching part was
WP8206570 but those are "NLA," too.
The service manual will not show the LG part number.
If the attached photo from the Pros is correct, then the original LG number was
2M246-310GF.
You may be able to find one in "new old stock" by any of those numbers at local or online parts suppliers or on eBay.

Microwave Oven Control Panel Repair Nationwide
"Recycling by repairing since 1982"
Door will not stay shut
If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.
Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.
If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals, installation manuals, and parts lists
here.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag
here.
Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
Exhaust fan runs continuously on Maytag microwave.

You probably have either a shorted base thermostat on the base of the chassis of the oven or a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating
components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full
model number from the tag on the oven here.
We have
the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded
it to our
site here for free download to help you.
The base thermostat (which I believe has thinner pink and yellow wires attached, but
not thicker black wires) should read normally open. If it shows continuity (virtually zero ohms or shorted) then it is bad.
Otherwise, I would say you have a shorted fan relay on the control circuit board.
We regularly repair such control
units for
customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a
week or so with a one-year guarantee.
Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your
full model number from the tag on the unit) for more
information & help.

Microwave Oven Control Panel Repair Nationwide
Mm5165bas, light comes on, fan works, carousel
Hi, it sounds like the magnatron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.
The cost of the magnatron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnatron, they replace the whole oven.
There is a possiblity that the circuit that provides power to the magnatron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it appart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.
I was cleaning the outside
In the future be careful not to use too much liquid in exterior cleaning of the microwave. To recover what has been damaged that depends on the nature of the problem. If you had liquid seep inside the microwave during cleaning the best solution seems to be to unplug and stop using your microwave (to prevent any further shorting or electronic damage to the control panel. Give the microwave at least a couple of days to dry. If you can gently warm the affected area with a heat lamp or regular incandescent bulb of some kind, it may help to evaporate any liquid that remains. Be very careful not to melt anything by getting it too close or getting it too hot.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, it is possible that the control panel has sustained some damage and may need to be replaced... but only as a last resort.
Neither the display or oven
It sounds like this microwave has control unit (an actual board inside the microwave) problems... it sounds like the control board is starting to fail for sure. There is no simple fix for this and installing a new board is quite difficult if you've never done such appliance repairs before.
Let me know if you want to attempt it yourself and I will try to locate the part for you.
Thanks
Tim
Maytag over the range microwave model mmv5165baw
Ours runs for 2 minutes and turns off for twenty then "resets". Gee I'm So glad I didn't buy the one that was $70 cheaper(NOT) that one would probably still work! Had this only one year and it's the Last Maytag item we will ever rely on!
Good luck finding a fix, it's a common problem apparently!
My Maytag microwave is working fine except it is
In all likelihood the mangnetron has failed, or
perhaps even the Power Supply. or a fault that is shutting the system down for
safety reasons You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man.
Ensure you get a firm "Quote" before
proceeding, and remember these days the cost of repair can equal or exceed the
price of a new one.
We have an MMV5165AAB Microwave oven, installed
the unit inside the microwave that heats called the "magnetron" has gone bad or the circuits that power the magnetron have failed. if its under warranty still, send it back to the manufacturer. if not you can call some repair shops and see how much it would be to service it, but its most likely going to be cheaper to purchace a new microwave since they are relatively cheap these days. microwaves are throw away product now days, they dont make them to last anymore, i hope this helps and good luck to you
I have a Maytag microwave, model# MMV5165BA and it
If it operates as normal but items don't seem to get hot it probably is a Magnatron failure (microwave producer). More times than not the repair / replacement of a Magnatron these days is not worth the investment, especially if the microwave is 4 years old or older ! You should be able to replace your microwave with a similar featured microwave / hood for about $300 to $400. You might try a JVM1750DMWW by GE great micro/hood for about $300, includes one touch sensor cook capabilities,300 CFM vent fan, removable rack, option to turn the turntable on or off, 1000 watts of cooking power. Good luck !

Door Handle snapped off
You have to
separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)
and then you'll see the previously hidden screw(s) you need to remove.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I
made) that demonstrates how it's done.
In some cases, you then
have to gently rotate the handle to unlock it.

Maytag - MMV5165AAS
If it is under warranty, call service. I experienced similar odors, sounds, and failure to heat meals. The magnetron/emitter and the transformer are replaced on two separate failures. Now the third time just happened. I am afraid mine is out of warranty and I will not purchase Maytag again.
