PPR RBT1

All radio's are factory set up and although you can tweak parts, this is usually at the expense of longevity or reliability. To tweak a radio properly and ensure it remains legal, you will need the service manual, an accurate frequency counter and standard, a nice dummy load and an oscilloscope. If you turn anything inside and do not know what you are doing, you could end up stressing output components due to signal mismatching and possibly end up with spurious transmissions which can interfere with other electronic equipment.

What gauge power wire is needed for a RCI63ffc4 it will be 20 ft long ?

The size of the wire is determined by the load it needs to safely carry. This can be obtained from the manual or the supplied fuse size. Once you have found this value, multiply it by 1.25. This means a 10 amp radio will be 12.5 amps. A 30 amp radio becomes 37.5 amps. A 60 amp radio becomes 75 amps - and so on. This is REQUIRED to prevent the wire being used at 100% of its capacity, which would cause it to heat up. Enough heat will cause insulation to burn. Insulation comes into play below. Use the chart linked below - and use copper wire. http://www.cerrowire.com/ampacity-charts In order to use this chart properly, you need to determine the insulation type. Different types affect ampacities of the conductor. Typical "romex" wire (the stuff in your house) is rated for "60 deg C (140 degrees F)". Specialty wires THW, THWN, USE, XHHW, THHN etc. are rated at "75 deg C (167 deg F)" and / or "90 deg C (194 deg F)" and have a higher ampacity for the same size copper wire than "60 deg C (140 deg F)" wire as a result. If you do not know which insulation type you have, assume the lowest "60 deg C (140 degree F)" type. Look up the amps you calculated above for your particular radio in the "60 deg C (140 deg F)" column, otherwise look it up under the column with specialty insulation types instead. If the CALCULATED amp value is NOT listed, pick the next LARGER value. Follow it back to the LEFT most column to learn the SIZE wire needed with the same insulation as listed in AMP column. If your radio was 48 amps, it calculated to (48A x 1.25) = 60A. If you don't have the wire, you can go to a store and say you need 20 feet of #4 copper wire with "60 deg C (140deg F)" insulation, -OR - #6 copper with THW, THWN, SE, USE, or XHHN insulation - OR - #6 copper THWN2, THHN, XHHN2 or USE2 insulation. The values above hold true regardless if in a circuit that is 6 volts or 600 volts. You should increase the wire size (lower #) on DC circuits only if the circuit length is 50 - 100 feet or more. AC circuits can be hundreds or more feet long before increasing the wire size is needed. I hope this was helpful & good luck. I hope you've got a ham radio license before you transmit with that radio in the 10 meter band.

there should be a knob on the face of the radio that says talk back. Adjust it to your liking but not to much so you don't get feed back.

Blower will not shut off

There is probably a blown capacitor in the thermal protection circuit causing the cooling fan to run constantly. Unless you are an experienced electronics technician you probably need to take this to a shop to get it repaired.

Hi i have a problem with my ranger 2950dx which is

  • You run your Ranger on FM? FM use Full Modulation. It puts everything that radio has in the way of power as soon as you key down (No "Swing.") In fact FM on a Ranger is pointless because the frequencies on FM that are available on the Ranger are CW only unless you are using Sideband with FM on say 28.400 USB but you said SB was fine. If you put that radio on FM and key down you are lucky your radio is even working at all and this could be part of your problem.
  • As for this problem on AM, you could have weakened things when keying on FM. You could have fried the Audio Chip. Could have a bad crystal. Could have a shorted transistor.
  • Any mods been done to this radio? Is there an Echo Board inside this radio? Is the radio new? New to you? Have you opened the radio at all? If not, open it and see if the chip itself is getting hot of something else.

My Ranger2950 has no sound??

Have a look here for info about the Ranger 2950. This is an Amateur 10 & 12 meter transceiver that enjoy some popularity due to its ability to be modified to work on the 27Mhz Citizens Band. Make sure the Mode is set to something other than PA. A few of the first things that come to mind is the Volume, Squelch & RF Gain settings. The Volume is straight forward - choose a setting in the middle to begin. Next, set the squelch. Most radios have the squelch open when set fully counter-clockwise. As you move the squelch to this position, sound should be heard from the speaker if a signal is present. As long as there is an antenna connected, the radio should "hear" noise. If you do not hear anything, leave the Squelch fully CCW and try varying the RF Gain fully in one direction. If you still hear nothing, set the Squelch to the fully clock-wise position. Adjust the RF Gain to the opposite direction. At this point, you should have heard something - even if just static hash. If not, the volume control may be dirty. Disconnect power and rotate the volume control back and forth several times to dislodge any dirt on the volume wiper inside the radio, and try again. Make sure that the Ext Spk jack does not have a plug inserted as it will defeat the internal speaker. Likewise, if using an external speaker, make sure it works.Good luck!
