LG (GSA-4167B) DVD RW Dual Layer Burner Questions & Answers
I can't burn dual layer
GSA-4167B hmmm.. thats an old drive... i believe you past it product life (means that you writer can not recognize correctly new modern media such dvd disks.
Reports are: that your drive is able to write on DVD+R Double layer 3.3x-8x (CAV).
Please be sure that your writing speed is between 4x-8x (my favorite speeds for quality DVD disc burning)
Since the drive have already some writing issues... and as you say that it fails on all media..i would suggest you to buy a new one.
If you desperately need IDE adapter you can find on ebay some converter from sata to ide converter.
My rw read but not write
Try other burning software if it does not burn, chances are it is reduced to a cd/dvd rom. your burner is out.
Software not for Vista?
windows xp versions mostly worked on vista, if not, download the vista version from LG web site.
I am having a LG DVD writer GSA-4167B currently stops reading or writing disks after few runs
as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking LG for any firmware updates, but first:-
Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall.
Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays.
Format a DVD +R DL onto a LG Burner
LG makes many different models. DL disks are dual layer, which are used for video DVDs. They do not not need to be formateed. Write once media like DVD+R, DVD-R, etc are not usually formatted unless you want to use them like a write once floppy. If you are trying to make a data DVD (for use with a computer only), then I don't think you want to use dual layer media.
Burner not recognizing blank cd-r
Hi, Some of the burner drives require only certain media. Make sure that your burner does actually use the - media or the + media.
This may be why the media is not being recognised.

DVD driver and handycam dvds
None at all - the DVD player has a chipset that is incompatible with that type of disk.
Check the player manual for the disk types it can handle
LG GSA-4167B DVD Writer... PC restarts whenever any CD is inserted
What is happening is that the dvdrom firmware or the laser is failing and cannot read the disc; and because the pc is using all the system resources trying to do so; it appears that you cannot get anything to run, making it seem as if the hard drive is faulty also, though not the case.
You will need to replace the drive if this is a common occurance, as the life of a dvd drive nowadays dependant on use is aprox 2 years, because as the prices come down so does the quality of the laser required to burn and read discs.
How to instal DVD burner GSA-4167B to my PC
My first suggestion to you would be to look at the installation manual provided with your DVD Super Multi Rewriter.
However lets assume that you've misplaced it along with your ability to write coherently.
If that be the case, this is what you need to do:
Write the following down because you are going to need to switch off your PC and unplug the power supply before you begin for safety reasons (both yours and your PC's)
1. Make sure you have the proper installation software that came with the package.
2. Power down your PC then unplug it from the main power source.
3. Remove the screws that fasten the side panel of your PC (top panel if you have a Desktop PC that lies flat) then remove the panel.
4. Remember to discharge any static electricity buildup you may be holding on the chassis before touching anything! (repeat as often as necessary)
5. Look at how many devices you currently have installed, like hard drives; floppy drives; CD drives ect. and make sure there is still enough room on your motherboard (IDE Slot) to install the device. make sure that your jumper settings for master or slave are set correctly (if unsure use CS - Cable Select)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If none of this makes sense to you at this point I STRONGLY suggest you get a qualified technician to do this for you, rather spend a little money and save your PC!
6. locate a free (unused) 5.25" bay and install your DVD Super Multi Drive. You may have to remove a dust cover plate and/or a metal protection plate before being able to install the drive, if so, be careful not to injure yourself, as some of the metal plates have sharp edges.
7. Once the device is installed, Insert the 40 pin IDE cable into the back of the device, making sure that Pin 1 of the cable (often red or black) is at Pin 1 of the device (often the closest side to the 4 pin power connector).
8. Insert the 4 pin power cable (it has a unique shape that allows you to only plug it in the correct way). Then insert the Audio cable (optional - if analog cable is not installed often Windows will use digital audio automatically)
9. Make sure that you have fitted all the cables, on both ends, properly before closing the case.
10. Close the case, fasten the cover and plug the power back into the socket. power up the PC... If you notice anything strange or hear more than one beep at your startup there is a good chance that you have touched something that you weren't supposed to touch. (If this is the case, switch off the PC immediately and consult an authorized technician)
11. If you are using Windows (r) 98, Millennium, XP or NT it should detect that you have installed new hardware, follow the instructions or skip them if you want to use the CD provided for installing (both ways have similar results) If you are using another type of OS you're probably clever enough to figure out where to find help, or write your own software for it to work :P
Good Luck and Enjoy!

check to see what format your computer burns on.[ex:dvd-r, dvd-rw,dvd-+r,dvd-+rw]different dvd players play certain dvd formats.the format for burning on your computer is probably different from the dvd players that aren't playing the disc.you also must finalize the burned disc.

Sony Handycam DCR DVD203
Hey there Tiffanisk, you can purchase several different DVD types; DVD5, DVD9, DVD10, DVD14, DVD18. For your purpose, I would use DVD9, which is perfectly suited to your Drive. You might also consider converting your video to a different format, with programs like Winavi. It would allow you to keep several hours of video on a DVD5, just burning as a Data disk with Nero, and either playing on your computer or upconvert the file as you need to burn a s a standard DVD. Hope it helped. Good Luck!
