Hello,
please clean the IR LASER WITH a cd disk cleaner which may be purchased at walmart for about 5 dollars. These same disks are much more expensive at radio shack. Please run the disk and allow it to clean for about 10 minutes before trying another disk again. This should do the trick for you.

Ca't read any cd, dvd anymore
try running the fix-tool provided by Microsoft on this web page
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems
If that fails then my suspicion is that either
1) the drive has failed
or more likely
2) because you don't have any DVD burning software, windows can't understand the blank DVD-RW disk. This basic packet-burning software installed with XP CANNOT write to DVD disks.
However there is a bit more to it than that - the Microsoft CD burning software (which is a cut down Roxio product) cannot co-exist with any other packet burning software (e.g. DLA, In-CD or simuilar) so if one of those is installed you have to DISABLE the MS CD burning capability on the drive settings tab. Even worse, Internet Explorer 8 is not compatible with DLA - which is included in quite a few CD/DVD suites including many of the later Roxio versions
My advice would be
1) un-install any CD or DVD burning software on the machine
2) disable the MS CD burning
3) run that Microsoft patch
4) Install some DVD burning software but DON'T install the packet writing software part of it
Note that after installing that patch you may also have to reinstall any DVD playing software
Windows cannot load the device
Because of this error, the drive did not show up in My Computer and the customer was unable to burn CDs or read any CDs.
I uninstalled the drive from Device Manager, rebooted the computer, and the problem remained, so obviously it appeared to be a registry issue that I would have to solve.
If you are receiving this Code 39 error and your CD or DVD drive is missing and has a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager, I hope this information is useful.
To solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions:
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- SYSTEM
- CurrentControlSet
- Control
- Class
- {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
- UpperFilters
- LowerFilters
- UpperFilters.bak
- LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.Another possible CD/DVD issue you may want to investigateTECHBELKIN PLEASE RATE ME.

When you examine the rear of the GH22 drive, there's a small square block just to the left of where the ribbon cable connects to the drive.
You should see that there are three pairs of pins running from left to right. You should align the jumper block so that it connects or covers the two pins in the center to configure the DVD as a slave device.
When shipped from the factory, the jumper block is supposed to be covering up the rightmost pins ( indicating a master position). Chances are that the other device on this cable was also a Master device ( where your D and E drives were).
Good luck.

My DVD rom cant read CD or DVD
He there it could be one of three things
- it could have the same drive letter as a harddrive in your machine. To check this out right cllick on "My Computer" (XP) or "Computer" ( Vista/Win7) then go to manage /Disk Management here you will see your Cd/DVD drive and will be able to change the drive letter if that is the reason
- The laser in your drive has become either dirty which means you need to clean it using a standard CD cleaner
- The laser is no longer operating correctly and is not reading the disks
Hope all the above helps
Why my burned dvd wont play all the way?
-
Click Start
, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
- Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
- In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
- In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
- Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
