Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Unplug all of the speaker wires. Switch it on. If it still says "protect" then the problem is internal within the receiver. If it stops going into protect mode with speakers disconnected, then the problem is possibly blown (shorted) and or incorrect speakers causing it to trip.

Have you tried plugging it into a different power point in your house?
If that doesn't make it stay on it is most likely a power supply issue with the receiver. More often than not it is cheaper to replace a receiver with a broken power supply than to pay someone to fix it.

Page 18 of the manual will walk you thru the audio setup. It has Digital auto, Digital, Analog auto, Analog. Once this is set you should be fine, if you still have an issue, post a comment and I will help you further. Hope this helps

Check all your speaker wires carefully. Chances are good that a braid has crossed from + to - and causes the unit to protect itself. This is a very common problem! everyone's done it at some point. Check connections at both the receiver side and the speaker side. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I can help you troubleshoot further. Hope this helps.

you dont have to use the dvd inputs if you dont want to , you could use AUX if you have it or any other unused input at the back of the amp

There is a contact inside the jack that is closed when the plug is inserted. Apparently this is no longer happening. This should be an easy repair for a qualified technician.

CD/DVD players use a protocol; Open tray. Insert disk. Tray switch tells mechacon that the tray is shut. Attempt to focus on disk. If focus is acheived, then it will spin up and try to read the disk otherwise it will ask for a readable disk. If the tray keeps opening, I would suspect the tray detect switch is malfunctioning, maybe the drive belt has stretched.
