The trouble is you've used the internal memory and now your camera is set to use it and not your memory card. You must remove your card, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen directions to format the internal memory. Then insert your card and promise never to use the internal memory again.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

What software is it you are trying to load. You really shouldn't need anything off of the disc. The camera is plug and play into your computer and if you need any sort of photo software I would recommend downloading picasa, it's free and works great. Download it here:
