Coolpix camera not recognized by Windows XP system

Coolpix camera not recognized by Windows XP system

When a mass-storage class (MSC) Coolpix camera (Coolpix 775, 885, 995, 2000, 2500, 5000, 5700, D100) is connected to a Windows XP system the camera does not appear as a mounted drive if there are no free drive letters between physical drives and mapped networked drives. Remapping the first network drive and leaving a free drive letter solves this issue. For example: If the Floppy Drive is drive “A” the internal Hard Disk is “C” the CD-ROM is “D” and the mapped network drive is “E” the Coolpix camera will not mount. If the mapped network drive is moved to “H” the Coolpix will mount properly as drive “E”. To change the drive letter mapping: Find the mapped network drive in the "My Computer" Right Click the drive and choose "Disconnect" Use the "My Network Places" to find the share to be mapped (that was removed above) Right click the shared item and choose "Map Network Drive..." Choose a drive letter from the pop-up list, remember to leave at least one free letter after the last physical drive Click "Finish" the share will now be mapped to the new drive letter and the camera should mount As long as there is a free drive letter between the last physical drive and the first network drive the actual letters do not matter. For instance if there were more than one hard drive (or DVD, CD-R, etc). This issue has only been documented with Windows XP and MSC class cameras, cameras capabale of using PTP USB mode should be set to PTP to avoid this issue.

On the Nikon Coolpix 3200, I looked it up on B&H site (www.bhphotovideo.com). Under "Specifications", way down, it shows: "Web cam capable: No."

Battery Problem

I bought a Nikon Coolpix L12 Digital Camera this past summer and have had no problem until last night. My camera turned off and said "battery exhausted." After changing the batteries twice with new batteries, the lens would open for a second then close and the camera turned off once again saying "battery exhausted." I don't know what happened.

I just had this problem today myself, and looked everywhere online for a solution. I changed the batteries (to Panasonic), and it didn't help. But i tried different batteries (Energizers) and the camera started working again.

Nikon Coolpix 2100/3100/3200 battery compartment door latch broken (again)

Tens of thousands of these Nikon Coolpix 2100 and Nikon Coolpix 3100 cameras have broken at the flimsly battery door latch molded onto the body of the camera. A few dozen people have fixed it themselves and Nikon refuses to fix it even under warranty (Nikon Service Relations 800-645-6678).

You can fix the Nikon Coolpix design flaw with a tripod screw and metal plate

Or you can fix the Nikon Coolpix design flaw with a paperclip and glue

I just purchased a new battery door for $15 with shipping from nikon. They sent a simple assembly diagram and I was able to replace the door in 30 minutes. I used a dremel to cut the old door off, but you dont have to do that. I got a little impatient.

Just buy the plastic piece and u can reuse the metal parts for your old battery door.

No memory card will work in my Coolpix camera

I have a Nikon Coolpix 3200 camera and it will not read any memory cards. I have tried multiple cards and none work. I can take the card and put it into my card reader and it works fine. What can I do to get it so I can use external memory again?

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 3200:

SD memory cards:
SanDisk 16/32/64/128/256MB
Panasonic 16/32/64/128/256/512
Toshiba 16/32/64/128/256MB

Other brands and capacities of cards may work, but Nikon cannot guarantee their operation. Check with the manufacturer of the third-party card for compatibility information. Nikon recommends keeping one of the approved cards available for troubleshooting.

Multi Media cards (MMC) are not recommended and should not be used.
