Kenmore gas dryer

kuki, on a gas dryer, if the thermal fuse is blown, it will rotate but will not heat. If your dryer front has a lower panel, the fuse will be in front behind the blower housing. If not, it will be in back just like this pic. Ohm it out or jump it out temp to see if that is the problem. Post back, Catriver

Whirlpool dryrer wont start

Is it getting power? Have you checked that the breaker is set? If so then next would be the door switch. Check to see that there is a little plastic leg hanging into the door opening when you open the door. It should be in the upper right corner when the door is open. If there is a leg then the next step is to test the switch for continuity. Unplug the dryer and lift up on the front corners of the top of the dryer. The top will open like the hood of a car. You will need someone to hold it up or use a stick. There are many steps to remove the lid and this will save you some time. Then unplug the wires to the switch and test for continuity. Your tester should read 0 with the door closed if the switch is good.If it does not then you need a new switch. Open the door and remove the two screws and remove the switch. Get another switch from Sears Parts Direct or from your local parts store. Then do the reverse of what we just did and try it out. Hope this helps.

Dryer only gets hot about

why did you replace all those parts?next time use a meter, pull at least one wire off the part you want to check,if you get ant reading the part is good,if it stays on 1 the part is bad,it's that simple, also most parts either work or they don't so if this does heat and you say sometimes it doesn't.when was the last time the dryer was cleaned out?unplug the dryer, pull out the filter, remove the two screws in front of the filter, remove the vent line,if the vent line is a long run to the outside vent blow it out with a leaf blower, then remove the back panel,on the left side remove the four screws and remove the duct that the lint filter slides into, after you clean it look for any loose wires, check where the cord connects to the dryer and check the wires going to the heating element, also with a screw driver you can pop up the top panel, remove the two 5/16 inch screws one on each side, disconnect the door switch and pull up on the front panel and remove it and clean out the cabinet,if you have a shop vac blow off the motor,if you clean the dryer once every two years your dryer will last a long time.let me know how you make out and if you need any more help.

Timer will come on but the dryer will not work

Well if the door switch is functioning then you may have a blown duct fuse. Pop the top and check the door switch for continuity then remove the back cover and check the skinny white duct fuse mounted on the blower housing. It is tied into the door circuit and kills the motor just as if you opened the door. It is non resettable.

Make sure it is plugged in all the way, It might be making a good connection Check for 240 volts between themobilian_968.jpgred and black or the 2 outer gray wires. Your fuse is right herethemobilian_969.jpg
Sometimes you move one and the junk buildup in that filterthemobilian_970.jpg chute drops down a little and blocks the heat in which naturally blow the fusethemobilian_971.jpg

If your door switch was broken during the move then that could be it also.

Trying to convert from

RED and BLACK are the two 120 volt power lines(that make up the 240 volts needed by the dryer) that go to connections L1 & L2 in the dryer &( it doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal),then the WHITE wire goes to the Neutral terminal, this is usually the terminal in between the L1 & L2 terminals, and GREEN is the case ground wire on the unit

It works but dont want

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Check to make sure you are getting full 220 Volt power to the dryer, if you are then:
Check your Wiring
Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. If this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Check the Door Switch
If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.
Check to make sure you heating problem is not a lint build up in the discharge hose or the dryer,as this condition can cause heater/thermistor problems such as overheating of the heating coil leading to failure of the coil and burnout of the thermostat/thermistor due to overheat.
Remove the back/or front just under the door of the machine and try to locate the air duct going from the blower to the drum. Normally inside/outside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistors. Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor one at a time by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape and running the dryer to check to see if the element is red or not,
or with an ohm meter check the two terminals of the thermostat/thermister
after you have removed the wires, the thermostat/thermistor should have/show continuity across the terminals.
If the coil heats up, or the thermostat/thermistor shows an open circut
then replace the thermostat/thermistor as it is defective.
If it overheats the dryer will not operate properly.
It's located on the blower housing.
It cannot be reset. A vent clogged with lint can cause it to overheat.
You can test it with an Ohm meter/continuity checker, if no continuity,
replace it)
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST.
This could cause a FIRE, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.
Right after replacing a dryer element, always run the dryer on 'air fluff' / 'no heat', and go outside to verify there's plenty of air coming out your vent system.
If the vent's clogged, that new element can burn out very quickly.
