Camera images have horizontal white lines across. Picture looks like it was taken in "Fog" plus add the white lines. Image quality improves if I select the Noise reduction clear image mode setting. But if I reset the camera to factory defaults the picture is worthless. This just started happening.

the flash won't fire on my nikon 5700, SB just blinks red. I sent it to Nikon UK to have it repaired since the lcd and viewfinder are black also. They quoted me £146.00 (around $300) just to have the flash fixed. I faxed over to them 11 pages (could have sent more!)of people on the internet having the same problem. I think Nikon should admit there is a problem with this model.
I've had this problem and Nikon repaired it twice for me at about Aus$200 each time.
Recently it happened again.
Quite by accident, I found that I could lift the black on-off main switch and that it comes off the camera body quite easily together with the chrome shutter button.
Inside was a little plastic tab with contact points.
Merely blowing off the dust inside and then replacing the shutter button and on-off black ring appear to have solved the problem for me.
However, my viewfinder and lcd were working normally and not black as lsvettek said.
I did have a problem with the viewfinder and lcd on yet another occasion and this was a recognised fault which Nikon repaired free of charge.

Nikon E5700 digital camara. Camara turns on, everything looks good, shutter opens but only see black through the view finder, monitor and will only take black pictures. I reset camera to factory settings, the battery is charged--don't know what else to try. Everything worked fine last week.
There is a service advisory out for Nikon E5700.
t has come to our attention that in a
limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ
digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail
affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.
While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400,
5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your
camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong
color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with
visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

when shot in Auto mode, in bright light picture comes as absolutely overexposed. In less light conditions, picture is good without flash but comes as overexposed again.
My guess is the the EV setting is on the + side and not neutral (0).
Either that or Image Adjustment setting is wrong. Check EV by pressing
the +/- button (right side near On/Off switch). Hold EV selector and
make sure 0.0 is in the display. Let me know if that is not the problem
and I'll assist you further.
I hope this helps!

Don;t work. getting "out of memory" response from camera.
Is there a size limit the 5700 can handle?
Not sure if this helps, but it worked for me on a Coolpix 5000.
I tried a 4Gb card, and the camera formatted it and reported out-of-memory. The problem seams to be that that max 2Gb is supported
What I did was partitioned the card into 2 sections with 2Gb on each. I then formated them to FA16.
This worked - but you can only use half of the card (i.e. 2Gb)
For the tools I used a Linux laptop with CF reader. The tools are build in here (fdisk and mkdosfat). I don't know how to do it on windows.

My Nikon Coolpix L100 shows a "lens cap error" message when I use the zoom. The lens cap is not on the camera when the message comes on. What is the problem? Camera is 2 months old.
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair
center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.
You can also have a look at THIS link.
Hope
the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.
Regards
Andrea

my nikon coolpix 5700 will not turn on, i have bought new battery for it and it just won't turn on. what do i do?
Pleaseremove the Battery from the camera and give a look inside the batterycompartment. Use a spot light & make sure that place are clean , not rusted& the battery connector pin are not bend or broken. After that insert thefully charged battery and try to turn on. If its not turn on then its confirmthe camera internal power supply unit is faulty. For few reason this problemstarted.1. Theconnectivity cable from camera to Circuit board damaged or disconnected.OR2. Thepower supply transformer stop working & need to replacement.OR3. turnon button connection may disconnected.
After visual checking by the technician is possible to say which part isfaulty. For the confirmation you need to visit a camera repair store. With outvisual survey technician can't confirm you which one of them is faulty. Thankyou.
