Is there a power saving setting? I think we accidental set it as the camera screen goes black after about 30 seconds. If we push the shutter button, it powers back up, but it used to not go black af

The "Auto Off" setting in the Setup menu will let you select from 30 seconds, one minute, five minutes, or 30 minutes. See the "Using the SET-UP Menu" section of the manual (beginning on page 120 in my copy), especially the "Conserving Battery Power: Auto Off" page (page 133 in my copy). If you need a manual you may download a copy here.

Nikon Coolpix5700 and Windows 7.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Windows Photo Gallery or Nikon Transfer.

Even older flash units from the same manufacturer can damage newer digital cameras. It's a matter of the trigger voltage. Older flashes can put a lot more juice through a digital camera than the camera can handle.Since you neglected to specify the model of your Metz flash unit, I can only suggest you look it up here.

What is sb with red dot

This error usually indicates a bad flash capacitor. In some rare cases the situation is due to memory card incompatibility. If you can find the camera reset option in the menu, try resetting the camera and removing the battery for 20 min. or so. This usually isn't very productive however it's worth a try. If you have access to a different storage card try it and see if that helps. My opinion is the flash capacitor or related circuitry will need to be replaced. Not good news but hope it helps solve your problem. Dale
