Glasses on top tray not cleaning properly

There are many probable causes of failure .

A dishwasher's water inlet valve is its most common part to fail. When your dishes are not being fully cleaned, quite often a faulty water inlet valve is to blame. Test your dishwasher's water inlet valve, and if it is no longer functioning as it should, you will have to replace it.

Water temperature is a key element in achieving clean dishes. A dishwasher's heating element is not designed to heat the water that enters it. Rather, the heating element is designed to maintain the heat of the water that enters the dishwasher. Its a good idea to run the hot water in your sink for a couple of minutes before you run the dishwasher. Just to make sure the water is nice and hot before it enters the dishwasher. If the water is unable to stay hot, it can adversely affect your dishwasher's cleaning ability.

There is a filter in your dishwasher. Its function is to keep large particles of food and foreign objects away from the pump. Many of the newly-manufactured dishwashers have self-cleaning filters, and routine cleaning isn't a concern. However, some other dishwashers need to have the filter removed and cleaned regularly. If the filter or grate is clogged or blocked with debris, it may interfere with the normal functioning of your dishwasher

Maytag D/W only drains when manually entered into drain cycle

Not draining the water out....
  1. Check for hose kinks or food plugging drain hose. Start at the drain port exit (there are others, this is just an example)
  2. Check the check valve and drain hose for debris.
  3. Check pump motor for reversing during the pump out make sure the dishwasher is pausing between the wash and drain cycles letting the pump/motor reverse for the drain cycle.
  4. Check timer for not letting the dishwasher pause. ( not all dishwashers )
  5. Check pump motor assembly for a drain solenoid, during the pump out make sure the solenoid makes that distinctive "clunk" noise
  6. If you have recently installed a new garbage disposal, check knock-out plugat connection.
  7. Check pump impeller for damage.
  8. Check that the water inlet valve isn't seeping fresh water into the dishwasher when off.
Check to make sure which style d/w you have as outlined above. The direct drive dishwashers have a drain solenoid attached to the motor and pump or a separate drain valve that must be checked with a ohm or voltmeter. The drain solenoid and valve energize and opens the drain port to allow the water to pump out. For a "no drain" problem, always start with the common stuff first...a kinked or clogged drain hose. The drain hose must be checked and cleaned out and if you have to, remove the drain hose(s) to fully check and clean them. Don't forget the drain system sometimes consists of a self cleaning bodythat also can get clogged and stop the dishwasher from draining. If your drain hose needed to be lengthened a hose connector was probably used, these hose connectors are slightly smaller than the drain hose and food bits often get clogged there, also the tail pipe piece that connects the drain hose from your d/w to the house drain is also another popular place to get a clog. On the forward/reversing style of dishwashers that won't drain, make sure the motor is reversing to drain the water out. If the motor does not reverse to drain, the motor, wires ( especially where the doors bends to open and close ) and timer will have to be checked. If the motor is reversing and running, the pump impellor inside the motor and pump assembly may be damaged and is incapable of pushing the water out to drain. If the drain solenoid or drain valve checks ok on the direct drive motor and pump, the impellor inside may also be damaged as mentioned above.
Always check the drain spout under the sink for a d/w that will not drain, also if the Air gas is leaking ( see Fig1A ) this is a clogged air gap or drain and normally not a d/w problem. These are some typical drain hook ups....if you have a drain question, may be a good idea to refer to one of the figures so we all know which style you have :-)

Have a hotpoint aquarius dishwasher Won't work powers up Red light comes on with salt 2 nd red light come on showing X What is the X? Please

Here's what you can do to address this issue:
  1. Check the Salt Level: Ensure that the salt reservoir is filled with dishwasher salt. The dishwasher needs salt to soften the water and improve the cleaning performance. If the salt level is low or empty, refill the reservoir with dishwasher salt.
  2. Check the Salt Dispenser Cap: Make sure that the salt dispenser cap is securely closed. If it's not closed properly, it can cause the "X" symbol to appear on the display.
  3. Reset the Dishwasher: Try resetting the dishwasher by turning it off at the mains power supply for a few minutes, then turning it back on. This can sometimes clear error codes and restore normal operation.
  4. Check for Blockages: Ensure that the salt dispenser and its inlet are free from any blockages or obstructions that could prevent salt from dissolving properly.
  5. Consult the Manual: If the issue persists, refer to the dishwasher's user manual for troubleshooting steps specific to your model. The manual may provide additional information about error codes and how to resolve them.
If none of these steps resolve the issue and the "X" symbol continues to appear on the display, it may indicate a more significant problem with the dishwasher that requires professional diagnosis and repair. In such cases, contacting Hotpoint customer service or a qualified appliance technician for assistance is recommended.
