TV will not turn on. Clicking noise heard from inside.

These sets use what is called a "switch mode" power supply. In order for them to work there is a capacitor that "kick" starts the process. If that cap goes bad, the power supply will not start up. Also, there are other caps inside that maintain the oscillation required for the power supply to work. There are 2 options for you here.

1) Replace the entire power supply module.
2) Repair the existing one.

Sicne these types of power supplies are not the easies to diagnose or repair, I would suggest that you replace the power supply module. That should resolve the problem.

Please note that there are other causes of the reported problem, but hte power module becoming defective is the most common.

I have no pic or sound except a chirping noise , sounds like a cricket , LOL , timer light stays red , there was a odor , like a burnt smell

Hello. The chirping probably indicates a shorted transistor or diode, and the burnt smell usually indicates a blown capacitor or a burnt resistor, or multiple damaged parts. I would have to see the TV to be of any further assistance. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck.

Have a dark blotch on bottom right of screen. What is this? Transported in the rain and fear water got through carefully wrapped plastic. Help

It's possible the mirror has dome dust on it from jostling during the move. W dried water spot will do it too. The front screen will come off by removing the screws on the bezel. Be extremely careful cleaning the mirror.Any scratch by a cleaning cloth (never use paper) will permanently ruin it.

Red and green wavy lines

If the distortion that you see can be described as somewhat of a 3-D picture, the problem is teh convergence circuit and this can be fixed easily. Also, if you can solder, you can fix this yourself. If you wish to do this, please update this and I'll provide you with some instructions.

AKAI PT5492S - Makes a ticking noise,black

This usually is indicative of the EXTREMELY HIGH VOLTAGE anode connection somewhere between the flyback transformer and one or more of the crt picture tubes or the splitter. Being that this circuit has a running voltage potential of over 30,000 volts if you are not familiar with these YOU CAN BE KILLED messing with it!!! What happens is that there is a breakdown of insulation over time usually from dirt or other environmental contamination. Usually a good cleaning and replacing the HV anode wire that has failed. (hint) it will be the one that the "ticking noise" is coming from. The ticking noise is actually the high voltage arcing to the chassis/ground.

Be careful!!!!

Akai projection tv has static in it but it goes in and out with the static sound and picture

If it does not do it via the rear audio and video jacks (a DVD etc) problem may be a bad tuner or even a bad connection on the cable wire or fitting at rear of set--move the cables at connection points with set on to see if a reaction. If not from DVD etc there is a way around this issue.
