Akai PT5492S 54" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
TV will not turn on. Clicking noise heard from inside.
These sets use what is called a "switch mode" power supply. In order for them to work there is a capacitor that "kick" starts the process. If that cap goes bad, the power supply will not start up. Also, there are other caps inside that maintain the oscillation required for the power supply to work. There are 2 options for you here.
1) Replace the entire power supply module.
2) Repair the existing one.
Sicne these types of power supplies are not the easies to diagnose or repair, I would suggest that you replace the power supply module. That should resolve the problem.
Please note that there are other causes of the reported problem, but hte power module becoming defective is the most common.

Akai pt5492
This could be one of many different issues. Main flaw with these units are as follows:
Blue picture tube leaks coolant onto neck board and mainboard causing problems.
Red and green wavy lines
If the distortion that you see can be described as somewhat of a 3-D picture, the problem is teh convergence circuit and this can be fixed easily. Also, if you can solder, you can fix this yourself. If you wish to do this, please update this and I'll provide you with some instructions.

AKAI PT5492S - Makes a ticking noise,black
This usually is indicative of the EXTREMELY HIGH VOLTAGE anode connection somewhere between the flyback transformer and one or more of the crt picture tubes or the splitter. Being that this circuit has a running voltage potential of over 30,000 volts if you are not familiar with these YOU CAN BE KILLED messing with it!!! What happens is that there is a breakdown of insulation over time usually from dirt or other environmental contamination. Usually a good cleaning and replacing the HV anode wire that has failed. (hint) it will be the one that the "ticking noise" is coming from. The ticking noise is actually the high voltage arcing to the chassis/ground.
Be careful!!!!
Red led comes on tv wont
might just be the fuse (a 1.5 inch glass tube inside the back panel by the power cord ,) BE VERY CAREFULL IF YOU DECIDE TO CHECK IT!!!!!!!!!make sure that THE TV IS UNPLUGED, USE A RUBBER HANDLED FLATBLADE SCREWDRIVER TO POP THE FUSE OUTDON'T TOUCH ANYTHING BUT THE FUSE ITSELF!!!if its not that- its a transformer and not worth fixingsorry but I'm taking NO RESPONSIBILITY if you zap yourselfi'm only telling you what I would do to check it without killing myself
