I'm sorry to hear that your sub was vandalized.

I'd start directly with Kicker and ask if they sell a replacement "surround" for the sub. If so, they will also have removal and installation instructions. Email them at: [email protected]. Or call (405) 624-8510. A user installed surround would be the least expensive and should run no more than $40-50. If Kicker does not sell a repair kit and requires that you return the sub to them for repair, expect to pay shipping both ways, as well as for the repair itself. My estimate would be about $125-150 total.

Kicker speakers always require very large boxes (you're looking at 12 cubic feet for both), when ported. Ported boxes are very sensitive to box size, port tuning etc, so it's probably best to leave it sealed, as they are far more leniant, and sealed boxes are usually 1/2 size of ported boxes. You would get less bass when ported than with sealed (because ported boxes must be bigger to match the sealed ones).

If you wish to experiment with the bass response of speakers, download winISD, and put your speakers in, see what size boxes give you what.

It's quite simple, positive from amp to positive of speaker, negative to negative. Make sure it's getting sub frequencies only and not full spectrum signal. Next (if everything checks out so far) see if the box dimensions and ports are correct for your sub. The sub and box combo will have lots of factors when considering tuning of the box and port size. You can find all sorts of info on the website for your sub. Qtas, max excursion etc etc etc. They might even list a few total volume and port dimension sizes for the sub you have and your taste in music. It's quite a science to get it right. More than buying a sub and buying/building a box to get great performance. When you get it right though... music to your ears (and chest)

I'm sorry, but glue will not fix this problem. When the rubber or foam edge of a speaker breaks down or deteriorates because of age, it becomes almost like dust, which is why it cracks and then breaks apart and falls away from the speaker. The only way to fix it (besides replacing the speaker) is to replace the edge, or "surround". The standard 12" repair kit will work if you have an 'angle cone edge attach' type speaker (see the bottom of the page for a picture of what this means). The only Kicker woofer that has a replacement cone/assembly is the SoloX woofers. All of those have what Kicker calls it's SPARE which is a field replacement assembly. They're designed for SPL competitions.
