Nikon D50 blinking "Err" message
Make sure the lens is mounted fully (give it a little twist to see if the error clears). Also, check the gold contacts inside the body, where the body touches the gold "points" on the lens, to make sure they are clean. A pencil eraser is a good cleaning device for these contacts. I hope this solves it for you.

Err
If this only happens when using the flash - then it is a problem of flash synchronisation.
If it happens all the time - then one of the shutter curtains may be sticking.
Either way, you should get the camera looked at by a repairer.

Flash not working
look at the screen on the top of the camera to see if the flash is turned on. There is a little button like a electricty bolt hold it down and rotate the little wheel on the top right on the backside of the camera.

When in playback mode, press the navigation dial up or down and you'll scroll through various information screens; highlight areas, histogram, exposure (exif) data etc.

Err 999
You can reset the camera 2 ways... soft reset is to remove and replace the battery. To hard reset, there is a microswitch on the bottom of the camera body opposite from the battery compartment. Youll have to reset the camera's clock if you do this. If it still doesnt work, have a Nikon authorized camera shop look at it.

Hi - not really sure of the problem but I think it is the shutter not opening fully during the exposure. If this is the case a camera repairman should be able to fix it.
Is the camera still under warranty? If not, get a quote for the repair (as this may mean replacing the whole shutter mechanism - not cheap) and see if it is more economical to repair or replace the camera.
Better hope that it is still under warranty.
Sorry I don't have a quick and easy solution for you.
Good luck.

Lens focusing problem
I doubt that there is anything you can do yourself. Are you willing to disassemble the lens? I wouldn't be willing to do so.
Take it to a camera repairer and get a quote to see if it is economical to repair or cheaper/easier to replace.
Good luck.

Error of (HR) on Nikon D50
The manual for the D50 shows that this error is about the memory card, and could be one of the following things:
- that the memory card has the write-protect on. There is a little switch on the card that does this.
- that some of the files(photos) on the card need to be removed. To keep them any photos, copy them onto your computer, then delete them off the card.
- the card needs to be formatted. Be sure to copy any photos you want to keep onto your computer before doing this, as formatting will erase all photos off the card.
- memory card could just be bad and needs to be replaced.
Hope this helps - good luck.

Press the down arrow on the navigation dial until it disappears. You may go through a couple of other on-screen indicators until you get back to where you want to be. The down arrow just scrolls through the various on-screen features (histogram, high light areas etc.).

D50 not taking pictures
Not experienced on this but if not taking pictures it could be the `mirror ` is not moving have you tried taking off the lense again and re fitting, you may not have fitted properly.
My own opinion is that pushing the shutter shouldnt cause a problem. Do the white dots line up?
Wish I could be of more help.

Really Dark Viewfinder
That would explain the darkness if the lens is stopped down. It would seem the aperture control is faulty on the camera body. Normally, the aperture remains open until you take the picture. It is only closed down while the shutter is open.

Nikon d50 lens problem
This suggests one the contacts on the ens is not quite doing the business obviously.
Are they of the spring load pin type?
work around them see if one or more is not fully 'out'
or make sure the lens is fully locked home when fixed in

Cropping
You cannot crop images and save them on a D200. Thats what the Nikon Capture and Nikon PictureProject software are for. Here is the Cnet review link: http://webshots.com.com/digital-cameras/nikon-d200/4507-6501_7-31568586.html?tag=sub
You've made an excellent choice btw....
