Pre out for Sub woofer on AVR 1601 not working

Is this a new problem, as in it worked before? If it's a new hookup, it's possible the sub you have isn't powered. In which case, it won't work. PRE out is 'preamp' for powered subs.

No sound coming out of speakers tuner or cat/tv

Please add details of setup so I can help you. For example. My Directv box hooks into my HDTV HDMI. Sound is carried inside that cable. I then get sound on my TV from my Directv RCVR without any other hookup. But I do have more. I use an optical cable to go into my Denon 1312 TV/optical input. Since my Wii, PS3, VCR, and formerly Xbox360 all plug into the HDTV inputs and I use it to switch. The Denon is not HDMI capable so this is best for me. This is the first thing I would try. hook the HDMI to your HDTV from the CATV/SAT box and turn up the sound on the TV. [Box and TV on and correct input used] If you hear audio, the hook it back up as before. Now, turn on the Denon to radio. and turn it up. Got sound? NO: check speakers and speaker setting. Let's say you have speakers hooked to A but not B. is the selector on B or AB. That won't work. It has to match the hookup. If speakers are on A only, select A only, etc. Also check with known good speakers. Also check all cables to be plugged into the correct spot and plugged in fully. Thanks PM me if you need more help.

Can't get the tv sound to come through the surround receiver

This question does beg for more details. For instance, some HDTVs have an optical out which can be hooked into the Denon. This works great when the unit doesn't have HDMI I/O. I have one such Denon unit [1312] which I bought for that exact purpose. It's all I could afford, and it works. You do have to have the rcvr set on TV or whatever the optical in goes to. Or, some people have a newer Denon and setup their RCVR to switch and only one TV input from the RCVR. then it's the cable box connection you need to check/switch to. it's not simple, but it's not that hard either. I you need more help you can PM me.

Blinking standby light on Denon

could be a couple things. Either a blown channel in the amp, or a bad voltage regulator. would have to investigate further with a meter to find out.

I have a Denon AVR 1601 that cut out in the middle of a song. It will now not turn on, it starts and then cuts out

It went into what is called the protection mode,Did you have it cranked up loud when it happened,? Check if any of your speaker wires come off some how end are crossing . Or there could of been a power suge that will also cause it to go into the protect mode, End fried internal parts on it.If it is a internal problem. The repairs will be verry expensive if it can be (Repaired) A lot of times it is cheaper just to go end buy a different one.

Denon AVR-1601

This is a very common problem with denon receivers of the 2001-2-3 vintage. On almost every one, there are 4 little "surge" resistors in the power supply. These werent quite robust enough from the factory and one day would just burn open for no reason. Well, actually there is a reason, the "surge" that happens every time you power the unit up eventually weakens the resistors and then they pop. You need to take this to a denon service shop as I GUARANTEE they have seen this before. They need to check resistors in the picture, locarde above the **** rectangular connector. Resistors numbers R141, 142, 148, 149: 75f69d7.jpg These resistors when measured, should be less than 10 ohms each. If they are more, then they are blown. If they are blown, then have the shop check the channels for blown output transistors. If the outputs are OK, then these resistors should be replaced with 1 ohm 1/2 watt metal -film flameproof resistors. You might need to be prepared for a large bill, because the entire unit must come apart to replace the resistors, however, just checking them takes only about 10 minutes... Good luck and don't try this at home. Rob

You need to assign the optical input to the video input you are using. It's under the 'Input Setup' menu.Or use HDMI, it will output the audio thru the HDMI connection. Once again assign the input under the Input Setup menu (press the Menu button on remote to access setup menus)

I have done some research

Usually it is bad power supply problem or bad channel problem. Look for any burned parts, it helps you locate the problem. Burnt resistors in one channel- you need to replace output transistors (better to replace all transistors in that channel) and bunch other surrounding parts. If you do not see any burned parts, check all voltages coming from power supply +15 -15 +5 etc then check dc at every channel output (not at speaker terminals but at control pins on the amp/main pcb), should be +-10mV

The unit turns off immediately after turning on.

Sounds like a bad capacitor. To check unplug the receiver and remove the screws to open the top up. Look for a little cylinder, usually black with 2 posts that are soldiered into the board. If any are leaking or the top is beginning to bulge they are bad and cannot hold enough power to start the unit. You can buy them from www.digikey.com but it takes some skill to replace them. I would recommend taking it to a TV repair shop.
