My Nikon D70 camera takes pictures that come out completely black

Check the MODE. With ANY camera with manual mode you can take black (underexposed) photos all day. If photos are black try and use an AUTO mode. Typical it has a GREEN Camera symbol. So many things can be set wrong on the camera and they are beyond this answer.

Memory card appears full but its empty?!

Although formatting the card should take care of that, I have used cards to transfer data from one computer to another, then the folder on the card is invisible to the camera, but still taking up space. Empty the card via the card reader by dragging files to the trash, then emptying the trash.

If green LED is blinking constantly when camera is turned on, this is a known problem with D70. Upgrade camera firmware from nikonusa.com website.

Fee error message in monitor screen flickering, will not allow pics to be taken

My D70s gives error FEE on aperture display, when a lens is mounted with manual aperture ring. This ring should be locked on smallest aperture. The body closes the aperture just before taking a photo, but a manual (mechanical) setting could avoid that. You can choose the aperture with the front wheel on the body.

My menu button is disabled, not working at all.

There is no way to disable the menu button. If the button does not function, it's broken and needs to be repaired, probably by Nikon. Given the age of the camera, repair will probably exceed its value. Sorry.

Tether Nikon D70 to l iPad and use as viewfinder

There are a number of apps that can do this for various cameras / models and different prices. I used an iPad2 to control my D7000 with OnOne Software and a laptop quite nicely. Have a look at this article for listings of products that work together with your hardware: http://blog.planet5d.com/2011/02/awesome-ways-an-ipadiphone-can-be-your-dslr-hdslr-remote-control/

Best settings for portrait photos

Be sure auto focus is on; M/A on lens; AF on body (left of lens front side). Aim focus area on the closest eye. Use big opening on short tele lens, to get some isolation from background. Idea: Use an (old) fixed focus lens 105 2.5 or 50 1.8.

During our visit to Paris/Disneyland

Based on the file size, the files in question are probably RAW, not jpg files. Nikon View NX software or Photoshop will be able to open those files. You may want to convert them to jpg files, but do keep the RAW files since they contain much more picture detail then the jpg files.

D70 will not power up. I had the charger tested and was told that it was fried. I charged the batteries and there is still no power. Is the next step to replace the batteries?

Forget the charger get a charged battery and test your camera if that works then you can pick up a charger at best buy real cheap.

Www fixya com support

Search the web for a free program called Recuva. Download and install it on your computer. Plug your SD card into a card reader and connect it to a USB port on your computer. Run Recuva and follow the instructions to recovered the deleted pictures from the SD card. This will only work if the card has NOT been used since the pictures were deleted. If the card has been used, the deleted files may have been overwritten and they are gone. I've used Recuva to find and recover pictures that I have deleted from my recycle bin when I emptied it. Try to download the program from the Recuva site since many of the download sites now try to slip stuff you won't want into their downloads. Be careful to uncheck any boxes that attempt to add automatically things like toolbars, search engines and other unwanted programs.

Err message

The Nikon D-90 users manual says on page 256 that the ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter. I've found on my D-90 that the only way I can get the shutter to release is my turning the camera off. When I turn it back on the ERR message is gone and the camera functions as it should. Occasionally, I have had to remove and reinstall the battery to make the camera turn off but this happens only rarely. The users manual says if the condition occurs frequently or persists that you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center. I suggest that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. I think this information would apply to the D-80 as well.
