How to reformat compact flash memory
Press and hold the shooting mode and LCD illuminator buttons simultaneously for about two seconds (both buttons are marked "FORMAT" in red). A blinking "For" will appear in the display. Release the two buttons and then press them again.Full instructions are in the "Format the memory card" section of the manual (page 21 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download a copy
from here.
Camera won't snap a picture.
Your Card needs to be formatted to do this:
Place the card in the camera.
There are 2 buttons on the D70 that say "Format".
They are both in red.
One on the top right button of the camera and the other is to the left of the viewfinder.
Press them at the same time for 3 seconds.
The lcd will blink "For".
Press the 2 buttons again.
Done.

Nikon D70s - all photos turn out black
A lot can be happening. Try them one at a time. If the first does nothing, go to the next.
- Put the camera in the "auto" exposure mode. Be sure ISO is set at 100
- Try a different lens.
- Remove the battery for 10 minutes and reinstall.
- Go into your menu program and press the "reset all" button to go back to factory specs.
- Next change your memory card.
Let me know if we need to go further.
Nikon error code R19
R19 is NOT an error code. The "R<number>" is the number of pictures that may be taken (and stored on the camera's built-in, non-removable, high speed memory) before the camera must move the images to the removable memory card.
If you take a number of pictures in rapid succession, the R19 will decrease to R18, R17, R16 etc. If you shoot all the way to R1, you won't be able to shoot again until the camera is allowed to move the images to the removable memory card. If you don't take pictures in rapid fire mode - the R19 will probably not change as the camera is transferring between your shots.
I hope this was very helpful.
My nikon d90 won't turn on anymore. I charged the
Hello. Begin by removing the battery and using the eraser end of a common pencil to clean the contacts inside the battery compartment. Then reinstall the battery. If that does not solve the problem, take your camera to a radio shack store and ask them to test your battery. joe
NIKON D70 FLASH WONT LOCK DOWN.
With the flash popped up, look under the flash head to make sure the little hook that comes up from inside the camera is not broken off. If it is, the whole top of the camera must be removed to repair it. If the hook is still intact, look for the very small hex socket under the flash head. Very gently turn it 1 or 2 clicks and see if the flash head will stay down. Do not push in too hard while turning it! If not, turn it 1 or 2 more clicks and try again. This adjusts the surface inside the head where it latches. If you do this enough times to where the adjustment has completed a complete circle and it still won't latch, it would need to be repaired by a camera repair shop because the solenoid is out of position.

I have the clock flashing on display, and r12 also, tried a lot. help!!!!!!!!
The clock indicates that you need to set the date and time. Follow the instructions in the "Date" subsection of the manual (page 161 in my copy).Normally, the r12 (or whatever number) merely indicates how many more shots you can take in the current burst before the buffer fills up and the camera has to slow down. It should not prevent you from taking pictures. If you need a manual, you may download a copy
here.
