How can i installed driver of sata hdd for linux red hat

if you are installing red hat 8 and higher there is no need to install extra driver because linux is the only operating system which will install everything including drivers, office suite, programming tools etc .... as far as my suggestion dnt install old versions of linux instead install new version ... there are many linux available
ex: fedora core 4,5,6 ,knoppix live cd linux ( which boots linux from cd no need install it) ,ubuntu, red hat, mandrake, suse ....
you can download it from net 4 free as linux is open source 4 all ...
be careful while installing linux especially during partitioning..... if u make a mistake you will lose all datas

RH 9 is an old distribution. It simply may not be able to recognize SATA drives.
(Red Hat Linux 9, the final release, hit its official end-of-life on 2004-04-30 - Wikipedia).

If you are looking for a desktop solution, you would be better off looking at any one of these newer (and supported) distributions.

Ubuntu
http://www.ubuntu.com/

Fedora Project
http://fedoraproject.org/

OpenSUSE
http://www.opensuse.org/en/

I'm not endorsing any single one. Each has it's advantages. Plus there are others besides these.

I have a 250gb seagate sata but when i put my 80gb

there was wrong in the set up of jumper in your 80gb hdd. Look closely to the 80gb harddrive, in between the ide cable terminal and the power supply connector you will see 8pin terminals paired together and a jumper use to short the paired terminals. It is most likely that the jumper was configure to detect your hdd as master. If the ide cable you use for the 80gb hdd was also use for the dvd/cdrom drive then it will conflict with it if both jumper setting was set to master. See the description of jumper settings in the sticker of the hdd. Position the jumper to slave.

Reboot your system again and see if the 80gb finally appear in your system. When system boot upon detection of hdd, the primary master should be 250gb while your primary/secondary slave will be read your 80gb hard disk.

How To Find Model and Serial Numbers
If your drive is connected to your computer: Seagate has created a very simple tool that will tell you the serial number and the model number of any and all Seagate and Maxtor-brand drives connected in or to your computer. Use the DriveDetect.exe method to find both numbers.
You can also use SeaTools to display each number.
(See below if you have a Mac computer.)
If your drive is not connected to your computer: See the flash-based Serial Number locator tool to find your serial number and model number (and/or occasionally the serial number and the part number) on the drive label.

Please rate me if this solution works for you

Thanks......Have a great time

Im trying to install red hat linux enterprise 4

Use a boot partition manager to create a new partition for the operating system. A popular one is Gparted - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

You can use it from a CD, a USB stick, or a PXE server. One of the easiest tools around.

HDD PROBLEM

HI,

The first thing is to do a disk cleanup.Go to START>PRROGRAMS>ACESORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>DISK CLEANUP. Make sure you also clean all the system restore files. If you've taken a backup of your PC and you want to keep it then just ignore that part or else just go to the more options tab and select clean up under the system restore option in the disk cleanup.
If this doesnot fix the problem then:

there is a temporary file somewhere inside in the c-drive which is growing and eating up all your space. CLICK HERE to download the jam software. The run a scan with it it will tell which file is taking more space. Then just brows that file and delete it.

Goodluck..

No it's not repairable. Copy any data you want from it to another drive, cd, dvd, etc. Go to www.seagate.com and fill out a warranty RMA form. If it's warranty you'll get a new one from Seagate

SATA 80GB Seagate HDD

When your 80GB SATA Seagate HDD complains of bad sectors while booting, this is a sign of a failing hard drive. Today's hard drives will actually self-correct a certain amount of bad sectors before you get any kind of error message. If you are getting "bad sector" errors, this is because the drive has so many problems that it can no longer self-repair. You asked if this may have happened because you have formatted the drive many times. No, bad sectors was not caused by formatting. Your drive did not become "dead slow" because of the formatting. It became slow because your cpu now has to do much more processing to "work around" the bad sectors on the drive. You also asked if you could recover your hard drive to normal state. Please understand that once a drive shows bad sectors, it will not be long before the drive fails completely, at which point you will no longer be able to access anything at all on the drive. No, this drive cannot be recovered. Instead, you should save all the data you can from this drive, and you should do this as soon as possible, before it fails altogether.

Seagate Portable Hard drive 4TB, part number 2N1AP6-500

Hi, Please put your computer into safe mode before attempting to connect to the hard drive again. Safe mode turns some feature off when activated so whatever program is forcing the shutdown might have be paused when connecting to the external hard drive. Also, try connecting the hard drive to a non-laptop intermediary device and then connecting that device to your computer and attempting to access the hard drive folder within the intermediary drive. Thank you.
