Dirt finder sensor stopped working

I had the same problem with a hoover windtunnel 6200 - u5477-900. I removed the flexible hose from top of the plastic tube running vertically along the right side of the back of the vacuum. When I used a flashlight to look into the plastic tube, I could see a clog at the bottom, where the flexible hose curved frontwards towards the brushes. I then removed the 2 screws holding the vertical plastic tube to the vacuum. When I disconnected the plastic tube from the flexible hose at the bottom, I found a clog of dirt and dog hair. After removing the clog and reassembling, the clean / dirty light now moves back and forth from red to green.

We have a Hoover Windtunnel vac, Model U6432-900,

The V belt will stay " loose" until you lower the handle. Try replacing the flat belt and that should work.

Hoover windtunnel dirt finder light stays red

I'm not sure about a 3 month old vac, I'd probably go the warranty route. However, for the older vacs thy start getting false positives. The sensor is simply a microphone hooked to a computer chip detecting sounds of dirt entering the bag.
To rig it to start working, you'll need to remove the tool accessory tray and elbow that enters the back of the vac, and attached to the bag. This will reveal the microphone at the elbow, and wire that runs into the bottom area of the vac. When on, a large amount of air comes from the bottom screw and area where the wires enter. My fix was to clean up the microphone contact points a little bit with a screwdriver, and then leave the vac running while putting in dampering in the hole at the bottom, and around the back of the elbow. Cotton balls and electrical tape at the bottom hole, and napkins around the outside of the elbow (wedged between the back of the vac assembly and elbow did the trick). The schematic for the vac is here: http<colon>//www<dot>vacsrus<dot>com/CartGenie/pg_U6485900<dot>asp
Look for micrphone.

Hoover wind tunnel won't self propel

There are really two reasons why the self-propelled wouldn't work. It could either be the belts on the vacuum cleaner are stretched or broken. The belts on this model control both the self-propelled transmission, as well as the brush roller. Here's a video that shows you how to inspect the roller brush and belts to make sure that they are installed properly and working. Try this repair first, as this is the easier one to fix.

The other problem if the belts are installed properly that would cause the self-propelled wouldn't work would be the self-propelled actuator arm. There is a cable that starts at the handle of the vacuum, and runs all the way down to the floor head of the vacuum that controls the transmission. As you pull backwards on the handle of the vacuum, the cable pulls this actuator arm backwards, which then turns the wheels backwards, and when you push forward it turns the wheels forward.

The problem with the way it's designed however, is that if you pick up the vacuum cleaner by the handle of the machine rather then using the carrying handle on the back of the vacuum, it causes too much tension on the actuator arm, and will cause the cable to rip right out of the arm.

This is a VERY common problem on this model. To check and see if this part is broken on your vacuum, step on the handle release pedal so that the handle is in the vacuuming position, push the pedal a second time so the machine lays flat on the floor.

Now if you look right behind the height adjustment switch, and the rug / floor switch where the floor part meets the upright part, you should see a cable that connects into the actuator arm. Pull up and down on the handle and look for movement. Is the cable loose with only a nut attached to it, or is it resting in the actuator arm?

Here's a very helpful link that shows you exactly how to replace the actuator arm:

Royal vacuum has no suction

If a vacuum has not suction then there has to be something plugged up in the port. You will probably have to remove the bottom. Either with a bag or bagless, find the suction port and usually it's plugged with all kinds of stuff. Sometimes if you have access to compressed air you could blow it out from where the bag hooks up or if bagless where it empties into the container. It's not that unusual for it to plug up. My parents have old old old carpet from I think the 70's, (The shag type that you can use a rake with) and there vacuum is always getting plugged up. Good luck.

THE ROLLER WON'T GO AROUND

HI There,

This is definitely a problem with your belts. This Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled models has a poorly designed belt system that frequently goes bad. Most customers will have to replace the belt once every 8-12 months, some even more frequently than that.

If you don't already have the replacement belts, here are links to these belts through us:

Why does my Hoover Wind tunnel not standing upright? I know it's not the foot pedal. Is it a crack in the base or somewhere else? This happens frequently. I've had it fixed several times.

If the pedal is good it may be the base itself that is flexing or broken. Inspect it carefully to determine where or why it is not holding properly.

Check bag light on and bag fine. also seems like it is shooting stuff out of vent on top

Hi!, It's Jim with Crucial Vacuum, Often times when your vacuums bag light remains on even after installing a new bag there is an air flow problem within your vacuum, or clog. This would explain why there is debris shooting out of your vacuums top vent. Remove your vacuums bag and check to see if there are any clogs where the bag would attach normally. Clear out any noticeable debris. While you're looking for clogs, check your vacuums hose, brush roll and filters. Stretch your vacuums hose out completely to unearth any debris. Manually spin your brush roll to help release any clogs, and wash your filters, but be sure to allow them to fully dry before re-installing them. This should undo any clogs in your vacuum and cause your bag light to turn off. Why is my hoover windtunnel vacuum cleaner shutting off?

Hi there! Sounds like the thermal protector is being activated. This is usually caused by a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Follow the steps below to prevent the unit from shutting off. 1. Remove the hose completely. 2. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear hose of clogs. 3. Remove the bottom plate and brush-roll. 4. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to break up and remove any clogs from lower hose. 5. Check the primary filter behind the side grille. If it is dirty you may rinse it under running water and allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum. 6. Remove the bag door. Clean the primary filter located on the vacuum under the bag. Rinse with water and allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum. The primary and secondary filters should be replaced at least once a year. 7. Check that the bag is not full. If it is, replace the bag. The vacuum will turn back on when it cools off. This can take up to an hour. Hope this was helpful!
