Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80 GB Hard Drive - Page 3 Questions & Answers

i have done this alot for my customers and its really simple. if you look up your drive and get the jumper settings for it and set it to cable select or master in a one drive enclosure it will work well. i do not recommend putting it on slave because some enclosures will not recognize the drive,
I do recommend having an enclosure with a fan on board and an external power switch. the reason it the fan will extend the life of the drive and the power switch eill allow you to power it on and off without having to flatten (power hot swap) the drive. Hot swap is ok but this is better than just unplugging the drive. removing the power from the drive keeps the drive in park until you re-power. as long as the drive is "parked" it is les likely to cause read/write sector errors.
If you have any problems let me know and please leave positive feedback for me.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps

S.m.a.r.t problem
Hello, what exactly is it saying? most likely the smart has detected that the drive is performing poorly and that there are bad sectors which are unreadable. Basically this is a warning a head of time, the smart has detected that the drive will fail soon in the future, maybe a month or few, and you may start loosing your files / getting data corruption.
Now would be a good time to back up all the content from this drive to a external hard drive and then replace it to a new one. These drives can not be repaired at home. It would have to be sent to the manufacturer, and well, 80GB drive, not worth it, you can get a new drive for 50$ which will be much larger than this one.
let me know if you have any other questions or if you need anything else.

Not reading correct gb
What is it reading?
Note that 74.5 times 1024 times 1024 times 1024 divided by 1000 divided by 1000 divided by 1000 is 80.
So, if you use base-ten arithmetic, you have an 80Gb disk,
but if you use base-two arithmetic, you have a 74.5GB disk.
