I had the same problem. If the above solutions don't work, I have a solution that takes a little courage and a few tools. Don't be scared. it is much easier than it seems. Promise. My explanation is very thorough and a lot of it is common sense and things you will figure out as you go. It took me about an hour, but a lot of that was figuring out what was wrong and I took the thing apart more than you need to, so it should only take fifteen minutes or so.

Good luck.

You need:
-A small phillips head screwdriver (very small)
-A set of Torx wrenches (look like screwdrivers, but have a star shaped head) (Maybe. You may not need these. See below.)
-Pipe cleaners
-Small zip tie

There is a valve just above where the big needle punctures the K-Cup. You can't see it without taking off the big, black plastic part that runs across the top. Look underneath the black thing where the big needle is; you should be able to see two small silver screws on the outer periphery away from the needle. Use the screwdriver to remove them.

Then use the Torx wrenches and remove the big sliver handle. This step may not be necessary, but I did it. If you don't have the Torx wrenches, see if it will work without take off the metal part.

Next, with the metal part on or off, remove the black piece. It should lift off easily. It hooks in near the back, so you may need to lift the front and slide the black part back a little to get it to life off.

Once that is off, you will see the hose is connected to the clear valve that is on top of the big needle. There is a spring inside the valve that forces a dome-shaped plastic piece upward to keep the water from continuing to flow/drip after the brew is done. This is the culprit. That valve gets stuck.

Cut off the ziptie that holds hose onto the valve and pull the hose off. A small flathead screwdriver may help to pry it off if need be.
It is awkward, but lean over and blow into the valve. If air does not pass through to the bottom through the big needle, you know this i the problem.

Take the pipe clear, bend the end a little bit. Stick the pipe cleaner into the valve with the bend part facing down. This will allow the pipe cleaner to bend once you force the pipe cleaner in. The end of the pipe clear will start to pile up in the bottom on top of the plastic dome. This is the goal. Get as much as you can in there, then pull it out. Try blowing into the valve again. It should let air pass through now. If so, success! If not, try again w/ the pipe cleaner.

Put the hose back on and wrap the ziptie around the hose to keep it on the valve securely. Pull it tight and cut off the excess.

To reassemle, make sure the hose is properly situated, put the black part on, making sure the two plastic hooks find their slots. When the black part is on, you should be able to pull forward on it and have it not move.

To put the screws back in, before you put the black part all the way on, feed them through the holes in the bottom where you pulled them out and hold them there w/ your fingers. It is a pain to try to get them in if the black part is already on all the way. Hold them with your fingers and push the black part down in front the was it was when you started this whole mess. Move one finger that is holding the screws enough to get the screwdriver on it. Screw it in half way. Move your other finger enough to get the screwdriver on and screw it in all the way. Then tighten the other screw.

If you took off the metal handle, put it back on w/ the Torx wrenches. Voila. Try running a brew w/o using a K-Cup and see how it works. It worked for me.

I have a B60 and it does not have the "NOT READY" problem when I did the "priming" process. So I brought this B70 during Christmas this year, I had the exact "NOT READY" problem during the "priming" process like most of the people here. They sure DO have some engeineering/quality control issue here. No water was coming out and it looked like the pump had some kind of problem in getting water from the tank when the "priming" process was taken place. Instead of waiting a technican to call me back on Monday, I decided to ask my friend Google. It appeared there are a lot of people have the same problem and only ONE of the postings offered a solution and it WORKS!!! Here is the link and the extracted method in showing you how to reset the B70 so that you can retry the "priming" process. PS: You may have to try MANY times for the step #3 as described. http://www.all-about-coffee-makers.com/my-experince-of-keurig-b66-coffee-maker.html Fixed Not Ready Mode by: Anonymous Bummed - I talked to Keurig this morning (Dec 27, 2008). There are 4 steps to fix this: 1. Simultaneously press and release "small mug" and "medium mug". Immediately afterward press "menu" 3 times. (Menu is the black button under the display screen.) You should see a time 6:09 on your screen. 2. Press "menu" once. Your LCD screen should say Brew 0:00. 3. (I messed this step up like 10 times and had to unplug the machine, then replug it and start over at step one. You have to unplug if the LCD displays "auto ____". If it continues to flash "Not Ready" and "Brew" then you can just keep trying step 3). Press and hold "medium mug". While holding "medium mug" press and release "menu". Immediately after pressing "menu" (while still holding "medium mug") press "small mug". Release "small mug" and "medium mug" at the same time. This entire thing needs to be done very quickly. as soon as you release "menu" go to "small mug" and release both buttons quickly. 4. Unplug the machine (do not turn it off). Wait for 3 seconds or so. Plug it back in, turn it on and follow the instructions for priming.
GOOD LUCK :o)

My Keurig B60 is Suddenly Brewing WEAK Coffee

My Keurig K-Cup machine has been making nice strong cups of coffee for over 8 months, which was great. I loved it. Now suddenly it has started to brew super weak coffee. (Barely tinged with the coffee color/flavor---not even drinkable!) I am using the same brand of K-cups that I have always used (Gloria Jean).
I have already descaled it & still the problem persists.
Help! I miss my Gloria Jean coffee!

I don't have a solution but have just experienced the same problem and am baffled. I am using the same beans same grind. In fact using the exact same grind it went from great one day to weak the next day.  I always run it for 15 - 16 secs to get the shot and that hasn't changed. Pressure and temperature appear fine. I cleaned the top of the top filter which was a little dirty but not seriously bad - no change. The coffee flow which is normally chocolate coloured to start with is just mid brown.

Keurig B60 only filling partial cup

It starts to brew, then only dispenses a little amount of coffee. I have checked the exit needle and have throughly rinsed out the k-cup holder. Usually it takes a couple of seconds before it starts dispensing, but it starts dripping immediately when this happens. Sometimes I can turn it off and back on and it will work but not always.

There is a major design defect with all the newer Keurigs, including the B60 and the B70/B77. My understanding is that Keurig has redesigned the pump mechanism that extracts water from the reservoir and into the brewer (there's a second pump that forces the hot water through the K-cup, and it's not involved). They are now using a small DC motor and impeller pump, which is much quieter (to address complaints in many reviews) but the new design just doesn't work.

It appears that air gets into the system, and the new pump isn't strong enough to "self-prime" in this case. So the pump motor runs and runs without water going through it, and eventually turns itself off so it doesn't burn out (it should usually take only a few seconds to fill the internal tank). Many people think the problem centers around the 'check valve' in the base of the unit, just below where the clear reservoir seats itself: Theory is that the tiny pump can't pull hard enough to open the check valve to let water flow, especially when there's any air in the system.

I've had two B77 units already myself, and both have failed this way within only a few weeks. FWIW, the workaround I discovered is to turn the unit on, and lift up the water-filled reservoir about 1-2" as if you're removing it. Then jam it back down into place, hard and fast. Doing this injects just enough pressure into the system to open the check valve, and if the pump motor is running, you'll hear (and see) it immediately start transferring water from the reservoir to the chamber. You'll often have to do this between each cup you brew, and again when you first turn on the system.

There are hundreds of similar reports all over the Internet about this issue, and apparently no real solutions from Keurig yet (I don't even know if they're acknowledging the problem). Other symptoms include brewing half-filled cups of coffee, as others on this forum have reported.

I suggest everyone call Keurig's customer service and file complaints about this until they come up with a fix. Don't let them tell you it's a problem with your AC power or your hard water (they'll try excuses like tthose first). And until they redesign this, there's not much point in having them ship you a refurbished replacement for your brand-new machine, because chances are it will quickly fail just like your old one.

How to disassemble a Keurig B60?

My B60 was replaced by Keurig. Now I am trying to investigate further by disassembling the old broken unit. Was able to remove the handle and the moving black top cover. Removed two more screws that hold the silver top piece but it is still stuck tight. Anyone know how to get the silver top off?

Not sure why you want to get the top off first :(

start with the black wrap around shroud first...
Take the metal bottom plate off first... then you can see the way the wrap around plastic shroud slides off... however... you have a hose and water tank plate base assembly in the way... need to cut the ty-raps off the hoses... they are smaller then 4" Panduit ty-raps... so go get a few... only 2 or three.
Once toy get that water base unit away... watch those leds...
you start from the right side of the shroud and pull the shroud down... exposing a phillips screw on top... get needle nose pliers to start a bite in it.
the shroud has self locking plastic teeth molded on the shroud and the silver top...once snalled onto place, they are a bytch to get off.

I wrote instructions to do this on another question... work carefully... use a stiff pointed piece of plastic shaped like a chisel... metal will chew up the plastic cover and shroud.
there are 2 screws... one on the left one... one on the right... start right side first

I have the Keuirg mini

Same here. (I have the Mini Plus B31) Called Keurig and these are the steps they walked me through. Not sure which part actually fixed the problem, but it worked.

1. Turn off machine. Using a paperclip clean out the holes in the needles (3 in the top, one in the bottom of the k-cup holder).

2. If water is inside the heating core (assuming it is as nothing happened when you tried to brew), with the machine turned off, press and hold the brew button. After 5 seconds the pump will kick on and discharge the water. Make sure you have a cup in place to catch the water.

3. Dispose of that water.

4. Unplug the machine.

5. Wait 5 seconds.

6. Plug machine back in.

7. Turn on.

8. Run empty cycle without a k-cup and only use the minimum amount of water (6 oz).

9. Dispose of that water after it brews (hopefully).
If still nothing is happening, call Keurig.

10. Brew your coffee, tea, choco, etc.

Note: was told by Keurig rep that whenever you use hot chocolate, to run an empty rinse cycle afterwards before brewing another cup. This will help prevent any choco from going up inside the machine and possibily blocking the water flow.

Hope it works! Mine did after following these instructions. The rep also wanted me to measure the amount of water that came out afterwards. Not sure what the next step would be because my call got dropped, but the machine works. Sipping on a cup now...

My Keurig B60 has started

My Keurig B60 has started making a grinding noise and takes along time to brew eash cup. Why is this happening?

My Keurig was making louder than usual noises like the pump was straining and took twice as long to make and was not filling the small or large cups to there expected capacities. I did a descale with white ninegar even though it was not registering to do so and still no change. But when I cleaned out the screen where the tank plugs in, there were alot of smal obstructions. I used several dry q-tips to pull the obstuctions(lint, etc.) out and now it works like a champ. I also used a small straightened paper clip to clear out the upper and lower k-cup needles becasue there were obstructions there as well. Now it is as quiet as it was brand new and makes FULL small and large cups!

HOW CAN I GET THE WATER OUT OF THE INNER TANK OF

HOW CAN I GET THE WATER OUT OF THE INNER TANK OF MY KEURIG

Answer

  • Most Helpful of 4 Answers

You can't. This model does not have a drain, and the water will stay in the inner tank forever!

If you plan on storing the brewer for a length of time, make sure you run several cycles (without k cups) before using it again.

According to Keurig, water remaining in the tank will not damage the brewer nor cause any mold to form due to it's stainless steel inner tank.

Sorry for your troubles, and hope this helps! Happy Brewing!

My Keurig keeps saying Prime

My Keurig keeps saying Prime and won't work almost every day. How do I prime it to last?

Posted by on

Answer

  • Most Helpful of 3 Answers

Hello ,

Often the pump gets air in it and does not prime correctly. It will then only pump a little water. To fix this you may need to get rough with the machine. Slamming the reservoir onto the machine will sometimes work, The shake rattle and roll method also will have the desired affect sometimes. Some have turn the machine upside down over the sink, have slapped the sides of the machine, or even shake the machine to get the air out of the lines.
Once you do get the pump to prime properly, you can keep the pump from getting more air by making sure to fill the reservoir before it gets empty by using a pitcher to fill the tank instead of removing it and filling it.

With some K-cups, the bottom needle does not pierce the bottom of the cup if you simply place the K-cup into the holder and then close the top. Extra effort may be needed to make sure that the K-cup gets seated properly so that the water can flow through the K-cup easily. If you have water still in the K-cup when you remove it after brewing, you are having this problem.

Also here is some more information that could help as well:

Descale the coffee machine....
White vinegar is recommended, but it seems like lemon juice works just as well or even better. Also there are many different commercially sold products to descale coffee machines. One of these is a product called CLR which seems to do a great job. Some people have even used their denture cleaner to descale the coffee brewer. Dissolve a couple of tablets in water and place in the reservoir... then run the solution through the coffee machine to clean it.

Another common problem is that foil from the K-cup lid will get stuck in the needle that punctures the top of the K-cup. Like wise the bottom needle can also get coffee grounds or other debris stuck inside it. Scale from the descale procedure can also be a problem. To get the needles clean the best thing to use is a paper clip. Do not use a toothpick as that can break off inside and cause greater problems. Bend the paper clip so that approximately 1" is straight. Then insert the paper clip into the needle and wiggle to clear any debris. On some brewers the K-cup holder can also be removed, the bottom will twist off to reveal a nozzle that also has small holes that will plug up. Cleaning these holes may be the ticket to a great cup of coffee again.

Check to see if you have water running back into the reservoir when you are brewing a cup of coffee. If you have water bypassing, then you have a problem, there should be no water returning to the reservoir if the brewer is working properly. To stop this from happening there are a few things that you can do.

. You can hold your finger over the white tube in the top of the reservoir to place more
pressure on the water to flow through the needle and expel the debris from the tubing.

Take a can of compressed air like you would use to clean your computer and blow air through the tube(s) in the reservoir and also the needle(s) to clear dirt debris and water from the machine. This process may make a mess so be sure to have the machine is a place where the mess can be cleaned up easily. Some have even used a large tire type air compressor out of desperation, and report that it does work. I would use great care with this method and shoot the air in very short bursts.

Hope this helps......... Mike from fixya.
