This concertina of the paper is very common on this and other brother models that use this engine. It happens because the final set of rollers (eject rollers) are not gripping the paper to pull it out of the fuser. Remove the rear door, now remove the black inner cover being carefull not to damage the long sensor arm in it.Now remove the light grey chute (held in by two large silver screws, the right one has a spring in it). You can now get to the eject roller. Carefully bend the roller in the middle so it effectively becomes shorter and it will come out with its white bushes at each end. the gear is at the right end. The four rubber rollers should be made rougher with some fine wet and dry paper about a 1200 grade will do. Now put the lot back together and the problem will go away untill they become shiny again in the future.

Open all the covers you can on the machine and give them a firm but easy slam close. Shut off the machine and turn it back on. This should solve your issue, if not, it may be a door sensor.

I repaired these under brother warranty and I have never heard of such a part. Whats its problem?

1) Pull out the cartridge and look on the right side of the it. You will see a small hole that has a glass like window in side (round window).

2) Turn off MFC-7420

3) Cover the hole on cartridge with a duct or a piece of paper. Basically block.

4) Replace the cartride back in the printer and turn on the printer.

5) The message should be gone and you should be able to use the copier functionality.

It worked perfectly.

What an unethical practice Brother is following? They want us to spend more money buying their cartridge unnecessarily.....

The drum needs to be cleaned, this is common with laser printers.

It should be done by a professional as the drum may not be exposed to light for long.

The print heads may be clogged. Enter the maintenance menu and run the cleaning cycle. If the problem persists you may need to manually clean the nozzles with a Q-Tip and Rubbing Alcohol (Ethyl Alcohol).

Dirty print out is basically due to cartridge related issues. Take out the cartridge and clean its drum/ (green roller) with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. The drum is usually located under a cover. Checkout for any spilled toner inside the printer and clean it also. Print a few pages so that the parts get further cleaned. I think, this would solve the issue.

Moreover, black streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located behind the green drum inside the cartridge. In this case refilling would not help.
So, it is recommended that you replace the cartridge with a genuine one (not any replacement or refill).

the scanner is dirty rock either inside or outside, clean

Hi,
It looks like that you printer is old one. Please take out the cartridges & clean the space, roller with a soft dry cloth. After that install the cartridges back in place & power on, do the allignment & take a test print

85% of paper jams are caused by worn rollers . The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease.

When you turn the printer off and back on again with a paper jam in it you will get this error message instead of a paper jam message.
