A9 is Brother's code "Abnormal scanning reference voltage"; try restarting the fax machine and trying again, or replace the scanner unit. (per Brother's website)

The Brother printers have a counter which will shut the printer down when the preset number of copies has been reached. You can reset the counter and it should print again. I did this 4 months ago. It bought me a little time, but my printer has begun to print a solid line down the left side of each page. I have cleaned everything that I can access to rule out smudged glass, etc. Perhaps it is just best to replace the drum or buy a new printer(much to Brother's delight and design).

I have the answer. I just fixed mine. The sensor is not really on the door. You have to remove the door by openning it all the way and carefully sliding it out ( one of the pegs holding the door is hourglass shaped. This will slide out first. The other is round. You will see a black flap that covers a red drum. Pull the flap down carefully. There will be a six inch long rod it's about 1/8 of an inch in diameter. It extends from the middle of the flap all the way to the right side. This probably popped out of place. Make sure that it is all the way to the right as this is where the sensor is. There is a little spring on the bar on the left side. This should be straight up and down. if it is not, then you need to fiddle with the bar.
The trick was that the sensor is NOT on the door, but on this inner flap. When the door closes it pushes this flap agains the drum and the little bar activates the sensor.

Check pc you are using to send fax is on and folder is right, still problem select pcfax to USb reboot AIO and reconfigure pcfax

Get the manual, and you may need the install disk too. Look carefully at the usb port on the copier so you get the correct usb cord.

leave it on for a couple minutes and turn it off for a couple minutes, and try again, if still does it, you are having a problem with the scanner not properly going to home position. it will need to be repaired.

Try putting a piece of paper in the manual feed tray which is right above the paper tray.

For thicker paper its better to put in the manual feed.

there is a reset counter in the menu options.
at least there is, on my model of Brother, its a 8890DW, very similar to the one pictured.

from the 8890 user manual:

put the new drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the machine. do not close the front cover.

Press Clear/Back

on the LCD display, it will say "Replace Drum? Yes/no"

to confirm you are installing a new drum, press 1.
when the LCD shows Accepted, close the front cover.

Did you change the toner cartridge with a new genuine oem cartridge?
Do a report print <settings> page from the menu and check the 'Drum life' Bar graph. If close to, or at 0%, get a new Drum unit

The drum counter counts to 15000 then says replace drum soon. Just open the front door and press options. Select yes.

When this happens I found I have to manually "kick start" it by either lifting the phone and replacing it in the cradle or pushing start in the MFC. Do you keep the Fax connection connected at all times?...I do not, although this can be annoying to have to connect on a periodic basis. Hope this is of some help?

try this, remove the toner cartridge, and with a little rubbing alcohol on a q tip clean the electrical mating surfaces on the printer and toner. replace and good luck.

Open te lid and look at the glass. You have dirt or white-out or something on the thin strip of glass to the left. Clean that glass!
