It fills with water but doesn't agitate. Any ideas?
If washer fills with water but doesn't agitate, the problem is likely to be a faulty lid switch, a broken belt, or a problem with the motor. Note: direct-drive washing machines do not have belts. 1) Check the spin cycle. If this works, the motor is operating and the belt is not broken. If it doesn't, the belt may be loose or broken. If you're fairly handy, tighten or replace the belt, otherwise call an appliance repairperson. 2) Check the lid switch and the tab on the lid that strikes it. If the plastic tab is broken, the washer may halt during certain cycles. Press and release the switch: if it doesn't click each time you do this, it's probably broken. If you're experienced at home repair, you can remove the switch, test it, and replace it if needed; otherwise, call an appliance repair service person. 3) Call a repairperson; there may be a problem with the controls or the agitator solenoid may be broken.

My washing machine has stopped spinning a few days ago. Is there something I can do?
Maytag perfoma washing machine I just encountered this (won't spin) problem and was helped by a very courteous repairman. The machine set for several days between uses, my wife then decided to wash a load. It went through the agitation cycle fine, but when it came time for it to spin, all that happened it the motot kicked in and it started to smell hot. I checked to see if it was a belt and found that both belts were fine. I then called the shop were I bought the unit and talked to the repairman. He had me remove both belts, and check to see if the center pulley would turn. I could turn it clockwise, but not CCW. I then inserted a screwdriver into the pulley to act as a lever and pulled sharply. The drum broke loose and I was able to turn it. It seems that the upper bearing on the shaft becomes corroded from water leaking into the bearing. The machine is about 5 years old. I turned the timer to spin and it did not move, however, I had taken off the front cover. ( There are two clips on the bottm which hold the front cover in place. These need to be pried open to release the front. The cover is then raised to about 45 degrees and it will slip off) by pulling on the motor I could get the tub to spin. I ran it through the spin cycle several times to loosen up that bearing and it works fine. I do have to make sure the unit is used every day or two to prevent the unit from siezing up. The repair for this problemm is rather expensive so I will be looking to replace this machine in short order. However, thanks to the repairman for leading me through this while he was on the phone. This is the one advantage of buying a unit from a full service dealer. Posted by WFD 1/25/07

I have a GE washing top load washing machine, and it has filled up, but won't switch to the next cycle. I have attempted the troubleshooting suggestions from the manual, with no luck. Right now, the tub is full, but the machine just won't move to the next cyle, to agitate, rinse or spin. I have tried different settings with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
my kenmore washer will fill up but it will not agitate.

Hi, Tonight when on fast spin my washer made a horrendous rattling noise, like a penny was caught between the inner drum and outer casing, it wasnt regular and didnt do it all the time. After switching off i opened and emptied the load, when turning the drum fast by hand the noise wasnt there. What could it be? and how do i fix it? Matt
Hi man - heres the fix if ever your WD440 stops and wont spin - and the off/on light flashes along with a couple of other lights like crease free etc etc.
Basically take off the bottom part of the back of the machine, its plastic - about a one foot by half a foot rectangle.
Oh yeah - plug it out :)
Look in the machine - you'll see a large jubelee clip or hose clip, google these for pictures if your unsure what they look like.
It will be connected to a wide - teenager size fist - black hose.
unscrewing the jubelee clip will losen this off.
pull the black rubber hose down to disconnect from the drum.
Get the mop - there will be a flood.
look inside the black hose, there will be a beutiful bounty in it - in my case I got 1 Euro 28 cents in a vast array of coins, a piece of sticky tape and a hair clip, which is ironic as I am bald.
fix the black thing back to the drum, retighten the jubelee clip, fix the plasic shell back onto the back of the machine... plug machine back in... push machine back into position.... taking care not to slip on wet floor.
approx fix time... 2 hrs to google for this solution, and then 5 mins fixing machine - 40 mins mopping floor.
A VERY EASY FIX.
all the best

Hotpoint Aquarius WD440 washer/dryer machine has recently starting stopping mid-cycle with the Rinse Hold light flashing along with the On/Off light flashing. This is just before it takes in the conditioner and leaves the clothes wet as well so no spin. Any ideas what the problem is?
Remove the white plastic cover on the back near the bottom. To the right as you look at it their will be a black concertina pipe with a hose clip on its top edge. Undo this and pull the pipe downwards to reveal the filter. There will be a plastic ball inside (which is supposed to be there) remove this and clear out the cr*p.
Re-assemble as removal.
That should fix it

Hi All, Need your advice....Suddenly our machine has started to get stuck in wash cycle for 2-3 hours, then we have to swith it manually to rinse&spin. This only happens every 2 or 3 washes...so very frustrating. Also some cycles do not start at all (lights just flash) Thanks in advance for your advice Cheers Steve
Suggestion: Plug off the wall first. Possible your outlet filter is blocked. This requires cleaning depending on your usage. Clean this out and refit. Check out user's manual. Good luck. Also check if your inlet into the machine is not clogged.

Hotpoint aquarius wf451 the start button has loosened falling into the control panel. How do I access this component from the rear to resecure?
Un plug it. There should be small screws either at the bottom of the panel on the front or there is separate panel that comes off the top back. If the back is one solid piece top to bottom, then the control panel lifts out and hinges up when the two small cross tip screws are removed from the bottom outside corners of the control panel..

my hotpoint aquarius wd440 will not respond and has flashing lights (start /stop flashing quick, high temp flashing slow &time reduce flashing slow). i have tried to swich the washer off and on again i have also checked the pump. please help.

First of all try cleaning the filter inside the back as described by others if this does not work there is a filter in the top. how you clean this is quite easy. all you do is remove the top of the machine by undoing the 2 screws at the back then pull top top backwards when you have removed the top you well see a large metal casing on the left if you are looking from the the back of the machine the filter is in there to remove the casing you pull the small pipe off then undo 5 star headed screws then gently pull the casing off noteing that there is a large pipe at the front when you have remover the casing you will see the filter (the small pipe you removed at the start fits on this filter) clean the filter then put it all back together.

hotpoint aquarius WDL520 all lights flashing not spinning water still in bowl cant find instructions only bought it at xmas
There should be a small door at the front bottom of the machine, open it and unscrew the plunger. try that first as there could be a blockage.
The machine will not spin until the water is drained out.
