Make sure your computer is working properly. Hook up another known working monitor up to the computer and turn it on. If you get video on the known good monitor then that means the original monitor is bad. If you don't get video on the know good working monitor then that means the computer has no video output and the computer would need to be troubleshooted.

More likely to have dying power supply due to bad caps with domed tops.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed HP/COMPAQ monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The problem lies in your ram. Pull the modules, swap their positions and reboot. The contacts are dirty and by removing them, they again make proper contact. Blow out dust. You will be fine.

Once in there, reset the resolution of the display to something that suits you better

your LCD inverter is almost dead. the monitor itself actually remains on, but just goes to black each time the LCD inverter cuts out, since this is what supplies white light to the screen.

Yes you need a stereo jack to connect the monitor through the audio port (green hole) to the green port on your soundcard chip. You can obtain one of these from maplins or Radioshack or similar, which will be cheap. Make sure you tell them you wanta jack with stereo

you need to repair or replace the power supply, the blinking means that the the voltage is not constant so it can be a problem of defective capacitors: 1000uF 16 et 470uf 25V, you have to take it to professionnel technician because it is dangerous for you, there is a hight voltage inside the monitor but if you have some knewledge about electronic and hight voltage you can do it by your self.

It can due to unsteady DC voltages in the power supply because of the dying DC filter caps, it may get worst, I would inspect the caps first, more damages can result.
