When I turn my computer

The backlight in your monitor is very slow to come on, and without the light you can't see (or only very dimly see) the display. The usual cause for this is failure of electrolytic capacitors in the inverter circuit that provides the lamp with power. The good news is that this is actually a fairly easy repair and many people do it themselves.

This video shows how to open a ViewSonic monitor similar to yours, and gives a good example of what bad capacitors look like. It also shows the soldering process if that's new to you.

According to one forum, these are the capacitors that need to be replaced in this model: C825 (1000uF, 10V), C903 and C910 (470uF, 16V), C824 and C828 (1500uF, 10V). The C numbers identify the part location printed on the board. The numbers in parentheses are the part's value. Capacitors are rated in microfarads (abbreviated as uF or MF on the part) and also have a voltage rating (the V number). New parts should have the same uF value, but get a higher voltage rating. They will not be stressed as much as the original parts, which is one of main reasons they went bad. 35-volt rated parts are not physically much larger. Do not use a lower voltage! Also, and this is important, these parts have polarity markings; you must be sure to get the plus and minus leads into the right holes when replacing the bad parts. You might be able to find the capacitors at Radio Shack (I don't know what they stock today) or at a local electronic repair shop. Online shopping is always an option.

Good luck with the repair, and thanks for using Fixya! If this has been helpful, please take a moment to rate it accordingly.

When I turn my screen

please try the LCD to other PC's, with this you can verify that the LCD is the one who is faulty.
if it works on other system without any problems, it might be your system or CPU is the one having problem
possible problem may reside in:
memory vga card(video card) processor(overheating) faulty motherboard OS(operating system)
the above list can be checked one by one, by a simple elimination process, meaning try other parts, and see what happens, for example, memory, you can borrow memory modules from others or if you have spare try it on the computer and see the results. run through the list until you eliminate or have found the real culprit
for the other items on the list: vga card - try another card, replace card processor - check system or cpu temperature(refer to your manual on how to)-check fans if operating-check for heat paste hardening(the grey material, like paste, see if it dried up,if yes put on new heat paste)
motherboard - you can check busted capacitor, burnt items or pieces, check for heating.overheating pieces or parts
OS - reinstalling the OS,

I would not suggest you to try to take it apart since there are high voltages inside that can kill you.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). Monitor is changing colors and won't wake up

This problem should not be only with your monitor, but also with your video card. You might have left one image sitting for long hours. There is no specific solution, but for Lcd users, you can try this. Leave the monitor off for few hours without any connection, maybe power chord or vga/dvi/hdmi cable. If this doesn't fix then the problem must be from your video card. You can try the monitor on another system to make sure, which one is the culprit. Your last choice is to reset the bios, to do this, remove the bios battery and leave it for few minutes outside (2 mins will do) and put it back. Reboot your system, this will fix your problem. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.
