My sony handycam DCR-TRV340E is not charging at all, dont know if its to do with the battery or the AC power adaptor

First, check that the camera switch is in the off (charging) position. If this is OK, Check the battery output connections for voltage: use a multimeter. To check the charger, put a load resistor across the output terminals (about 1000 ti 2000 ohms) and again, using a multimeter, check there is a charging voltage. Alternatively, if the camera operates OK with the charger attached and switched on the charger is OK, AND, the problem is then in the charging circuit from camera to battery. If the battery checks OK as in the beginning, then you will need a Sony repair man who needs to know all the results from your testing above.

Have and old Sony DCR-TRV340E

I'm sorry you're experiencing difficulty with transferring videos from the Camcorder to the Windows 7 Computer. Unfortunately, the USB streaming feature of the Camcorder is not compatible with Windows 7 Operating System. However, you can use either i.LINK or A/V interface to transfer videos from the Camcorder to the Windwos 7 Computer. I have provided a link where you can view the steps to transfer videos using i.LINK interface:
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893
I have provided another link where you can view the steps to transfer videos using A/V interface:
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111921
Thank you for understanding.

..DCR-TRV340E-digital-8 digital camcorder.i wanted to

Hi,
You can not transfer video from camcorder through USB port, there is jack, DV IN / OUT on camcorder, it also calls Firewire/ IEEE1394, DV port etc
Check your computer/ laptop for DV IN port and plug DV Cable between camcorder and computer to transfer video files recorded on video-8 tape and Windows Movie Maker program will do the job.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.

What we want to do

There are a couple of methods that you can use to transfer video into your pc. First you need to install the software that came with the camera onto your computer. Just put the disk in the CD or DVD drive on your pc and follow the prompts to install the software. If you no longer have the disk that came with your camera, you can download the software from Sony's website at www.sony.com. Click on support and then downloads and enter your camera model information and follow the prompts to install the software on your pc.

Once the software is installed, you can use a cable to connect your camera to your computer. Once connected, you should see a pop up window that asks you what you want to do. Choose open files and then view and save the video and/or pictures to your computer.

If you do not have a cable to connect your camera to your pc, you can buy one at any electronics store or direct from Sony on their website.

You can also download video from a memory card if your camera has one and your pc has a card slot to access it.

Some cameras have the ability to send the videos and/or pictures stored on it to email. Check to see if your camera has this function and try sending copies of the videos to your email address.

I hope this helps? Good luck!

Hi George - Your camera uses proprietary Sony Memory Sticks. Below is a chart of the exact sticks supported. Being an older device it is not capable of using the newer larger memory cards.

Hi, I'm wondering if you

*reason for not streaming the video: its because you're using the wrong type of cable to stream it to a macbook

*type of cable needed: you need a firewire cable to stream videos from your camcorder to your macbook.

*please make sure to check if your macbook has a firewire(IEEE) port on it and also make sure what type of firewire port it has( 4 pin or 6 pin firewire port)

*check your macbook specification for a firewire port and make sure to check how mny pinslot it has before buying a firewire cable.

* the other end of a firewire cable would surely fit the camcorder and the other end would depend on the firewire port available in your macbook.

* you would also be needing an application on your macbook that would record streamed videos.

My windows 7 computer wont find my DCR-TRV340e

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer first, then choose "troubleshoot compatiblity". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program wiljulyallan01_11.jpgl run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D

When put on recording it

The unit is smart enough to detect digital dropout which is what causes the stripes. Usually a cleaning tape will resolve this. If that fails to fix the problem, a professional cleaning will be in order and testing of the actual head should be done as well. It is also possible that there is some obstruction which is preventing proper tape movement. The bottom line here is that this unit will likely require a professional. Digital units are sensitive to alignment as well. A professional will have the necessary equipment to align it as well.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,
Dan
