This error code is the system control microprocessor reporting that it has been unable to complete the cassette unloading process before timing out.
This condition can be caused by a mistimed mechanism due to mechanical shock or excessive force( eg. trying to force the cassette door open). It may also be caused by tight or faulty cassette tape loaded in mechanism.

Error C:31:23 is related to mechanically misalignment of the tape loading path, and it removes when mechanical adjustment performs, a sensor in mechanical section detects mechanical problem and generates the error. This error removes automatically when the problem solve. For mechanical adjustment contact any expert nearby to perform the adjustment.Which is bit technical and can only perform by an expert.

   This is a mechanical misallignment problem. Your camera tape path is mechanically misalligned, and it need mechanical adjustment which is bit a technical job and can only perform by an expert.More over no part is required in this problem. Please contact any expert nearby for mechanical adjustment and your camera work fine again.

check the driver to see if it is installed,
control panel/ hardware & sound / Device manager/ imageing devices

using XP compatability mode.

Your cam is not supported by Sony on Vista so download another video captute programme as the original won't work, but you still need the Sony usb driver. FX does work on Vista http://www.jhepple.com/video_capture_software.htm

Look at my most recent post about this, or better yet, go to camerahacker.com to see many possible solutions plus diagrams and actual pictures. You'll have to scroll down about 60 pages or so, ther are over 2,000 complaints about this error code alone on just this one website!
YOu may be missing the roller, the white plastic lock or both. Turn the camera upside down, remove the tape and gently shake it and see if anything comes out.
Re-install per the directions on that website. If not sure what to do and you find the parts, post here again and I'll try to help you. good luck! BOYCOTT SONY!!!!!

Hi,
    First you didn't mention model number which helps to find out the cause of fault, Secondly the ERROR you show is wrong according to service manual. Please check it again it could be ERROR C:31:22 but not C:30:22 and it is for T reel fault which means that the problem is in machenical section which removes from mechanical adjustment. For this contact any expert nearby to you for MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT.

For this please contact any sony service centre nearby to you and you can get CCD IMAGER there to change by yourself if you are aware how to fix it or otherwise service centre must help you in this regard,
