Oddly I have the oposite of this problem. I actually did find the drivers but now I need to find a software that will record the video off of it. I normally use MotionDV STUDIO but for some reason it won't detect this camera.

It could be either aperture is stuck or ccd imager chip is defective in your camcorder that will be replaced.
In bright light, look into camera lens, turn ON in camera mode and observe does aperture open like an eye?
If you notice some thing opens right in center of camcorder lens then aperture is working and ccd imager chip is bad that will be replaced.
Let me know model number of your Sony camcorder to provide you ccd imager part number info.

From the 'Operating Instructions' manual: "The recording date and time are not displayed while recording. however, they are recorded automatically onto the tape. To display the recording date and time, press DATA CODE on the Remote Commander (remote control) during recording."

I am not familiar with this model but the from experience with others- try cleaning the tape heads. Len.

I have same camera and computer. I use IEEE1394 FireWire(CardBus PCcard). It works for Ulead DVD MovieWriter which is in my Vista.

I have the same problem and it is fixed! I laughed when I first read this but it does work! Take off your battery from the back of the camera, turn it over and give it a nice firm wack. Put battery back in and it WILL get rid of your error and work. I've tried the hair dryer before and it has worked but this time for me it did not.. It truly works... Hope your as happy as I was when it worked....

You have to plug your camera into the computer, put it on VCR mode, go to the menu on the camcorder, select setup menu (4th down), usb stream, turn it on. I cannot believe it was that easy.

The DCR-TRV140 records and plays back Digital * tapes only.

Digital 8 cameras are fairly old models and unless you have some type of extended warranty in writing it would be a long shot at best. I probably say, No.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

I use this information in photography, its caled EXIF Data, and basicaly is the internal information stamp in the pic (date, camera type, focus used, expsure range, etc, etc).

EXIF data on each movie clip recorded is stored in the accompanying .THM file which is a small JPEG thumbnail file of the first frame of the movie.

Force open the *.thm file with photoshop (or simply make a backup copy and change the extension to *.jpg) and read the EXIF via Ctrl+Alt+Shift+I.

I have a sony hi 8 video camera recorder. Someone dropped it and now we cant get the tape out to put in another camera. Can I use a USB to get the information off the camera?

This is the most common problem in Sony camcorders of various models. It is most likely a problem with a rubber bushing on the inside. It is an easy fix but it is very hard to explain with out pictures. Here is a link to a GREAT tutorial however, it is written in Japanese. All you need to do is follow the excellent pictures and this should take care of the problem. The plastic tube on the inside of the rubber bushing is the most likely cause so just follow the pictures. He uses a drinking straw to fix this. Good luck. There is normally a Nylon keeper that holds the Pinch Roller in place. If this is missing it may be lodged in the tape mechanism and will cause further problems.

This can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.
