Connecting wire (harness / flexible) between lcd board and main board of camera seems broken.

Hello,

Before using a DVD-RW you must first format the disc.

Here is a link to your manual:

Go to page 26 and following for instructions on formatting yor disc.

Please make sure that you're using fully charged battery pack.
Remove the battery and reinsert after 1 minute.
Reset the camera by following the reset procedure from the manual of the Camera.
If the issue persists again, service is required

Yes you just need some editing software for your PC or Laptop.
You should have some software from Sony that came with your Handycam.

This is a broken LCD screen and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

There are many format conversion programs for video files available for free download from the internet. You just need to find one that will convert the files you have into the files format your editor needs. I usually go to www.download.com for this kind of thing.

you may find some new softwere for it but dont count on it working,,,,it may kill off the camera,,,if i were you i would stick to the dvd's that will work in it,,,the new one's you got are bigger (they hold more) than the camera can record to and its softwere is out of date for the biger dvd's
if you reprogram the camera with any new softwere the camera may then not work at all? so copy the camera's softwere first so you can reload it back on if it packs up!

I do not see any mirror either in lcd section of your Sony DCR-DVD101 camera as you can see in below picture.
