Spend $50 to $100 at any TV/video repair-shop, for trouble-shooting and repair.

Or, spend $40 to $50 to buy a used 17-inch LCD screen, or $100 to buy a new 19-inch LCD screen.

If you can make out a faint image then the fault is a backlight problem.
The fault could be an inverter board or the CCFL lamp/s

I had the same problem. Hold the menu button in for 5-10 seconds and it will unlock.

The connecting cable or the video card would be the first suspects. Try a different cable to connect the monitor first, if there is no change, the video card in the computer would be second to look at. Can simply connect a different monitor to your computer to troubleshoot this. If the testing monitor works, it will be the graphics card that is the issue.

I would suggest trying your xbox on another monitor to be sure the xbox is not the problem.

Most new LCD tv and monitors color,brightness,vert.hold, horz.hold,resolution, ect., are all controlled by a single programmed EEPROM, that costs more to replace than a new monitor/tv. You pay for the programming, not the chip.

Change the cable and check.

Once you power off the monitor you will have to turn it back on. If you keep it in standby mode it will come up once you turn your computer on.

Does this monitor use a separate AC power converter/power supply? If so, unplug from monitor, and test voltage on the output plug. Had a similar problem, it was the power supply, NOT the monitor.
