Canon ZR200 Mini DV Digital Camcorder - Page 8 Questions & Answers
Sony DCR-TRV340 tape door won't close
close it up with out a tape in it. Slap the side with the tape door three times. Open it up and it should work. Sounds stupid, but it works. For real.
Video files too large
Hmm that sounds about right for the time you mention, but you might try something called "DVD SHRINK" from the web and see if you can compress your files further...accordianman
Wont eject
Can you see if the tape is caught on the internal workings?
XP will not recignize my ZR200 as a valid input device
On your computer, go to <start><my computer>. Right click on My computer and select "properties". Select "hardware" and then "device manager". On the drop down menu, select the hub in question and be sure it is not "disabled". Also be sure that the power options on this hub "never expire", as Windows default sets a given time for this....accordianman
Downloading video from Canon DV zr200
purchase a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable and mac should recognize camcorder-that should be about all you need to do-older cam so maybe go to cannons website if problemd with drivers
Download pictures
If you put a digital card into the camcorder then you can take it out and put into your computer, printer or regular camera. Windows should have a program though that will let you transfer the pictures from the camcorder to your computer.
Vista and firewire 1394?
Firewire works fine under Vista, but it's quite possible your USB to Firewire bridge doesn't have proper Vista drivers. You wouldn't expect Vista to include these, they would be installed from a disc that came with your adaptor. USB to Firewire is a questionable option at best... there are often problems with it. You may be better off with a PC-Card or ExpressCard solution, if the laptop is your only computer.
Also, when the camera says "DV IN", it's expecting video from the PC to be sent to it, it's not in capture mode. Most camcorders must be in either "play" mode, or a special "link to PC" mode in order to even be recognized by Windows (any version) as a video input device.
However, until you resolve the issue of supporting your Firewire device in Vista, nothing the camcorder does will be an issue yet. You should check the documentation that came with your USB to Firewire device, the driver disc, etc. for information on Vista support.
Problem tape in the receptacle
I found other entry in this forum about the same problem. Could not believe the solution, but worked for me and other 30+ folks...
A couple of gentle slaps on the side (not the one of the screen), made it work again...
I had nothing to loose since it was out of warranty, so I tried and worked on mine as well...
Good luck
Transfer video into dvd on computer
Well what i did was i got a ati video card that had built in video inputs (and it also had a tunner) plugged the camcorder up to it and recored what was on the camcorder on to the pc (ati came with a utility that made this possible). after the movie was on the PC i recored it to dvd with nero. Canon zr200
This is the description of the feature you need:
"Have friends in far-off places? Turn your ZR200 into a Webcam for Internet Video Chat with Microsoft Windows Messenger through IEEE1394. It's all possible thanks to the DV Messenger2 software, available as a free download for ZR200 owners. DV Messenger2 allows you to control the zoom and focus of your ZR200 or the camcorder of the person you are chatting with. Preview thumbnails and transfer photos. You can even watch and control the video playback of either camcorder right from your computer."
You can download DV Messenger Version 2 only after registering with Canon, see the bottom of the following page:

Little green squares appear in video playback
Had the same problem, usually when trying to upscale video ! Try reducing size of video on laptop when using transfer software, see if that helps. With my aged laptop, problem seems to be because my laptop has an extremely slow processor chip, and it just can't keep up with the video !
The software I use, which is free, is Freemake Video Convertor, which gives you a choice of output formats and sizes.
