How to get a bluetooth headset to work
I bought this great little laptop in part because of the bluetooth support. I wanted to use a BT mouse first, but I also wanted to use a bluetooth headset for voip applications.
I was not happy when I found that the machine didn't do the 'headset profile' because it only had the standard XP bluetooth stack. I called Sony on this several times and was told that "you might be able to find a 3rd party bluetooth stack" but they could give no further information.
I had poked around the web and found a Widcomm stack. But I couldn't get it to recognize the BT radio in my machine. I gave up for a year or 2.
I got inspired recently to take another shot. I had a version of Widcomm 5 from one of the several BT dongle's I'd bought. I copied that onto my machine.
I had to figure out what hardware this machine used. Somehow I figured out (or guessed) that it was Alps hardware. So the Widcomm stack I have should work, since it was also for an Alps based dongle.
I tweaked the btwusb.inf file in the widcomm installation software. If you look at this file, you'll see a lot of entries that include something like this:
USB\VID_044e&PID_3001
I think that '3001' thing is a hardware identifier for another ALPS bluetooth radio.
I went into Device Manager and looked at the properties for my existing bluetooth radio. My hardware was
USB\VID_044e&PID_3007
So.. 3007 instead of 3001.
I went through the btwusb.inf file, and for any line which contained
USB\VID_044e&PID_3001
I copied the "3001" lines (there were several) and changed it to 3007 . At this point, I was able to use device manager to change the driver to the Widcomm stack.
Next I ran the Setup program in the widcomm software.
It loaded up just fine and I can now use my headset.
Well, that only took 2 or 3 years to figure out..
Looking for screen and keyboard
eBay is the best place for this type of thing. It's way cheaper than any laptop depot I've come across.
Here's one for your keyboard:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Vaio-Laptop-Keyboard-VGN-T140P-HMB991-D01-NR_W0QQitemZ320137022753QQihZ011QQcategoryZ140084QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
As far as the screen is concerned; the way to get the best deal is to search by model number of the screen and not just laptop. The same screen can be used in several different laptops. Take your screen out and look on the back of it. There will be a model number there. Enter that model number into ebay's search, making sure you check product description to be included in the search query. Any screen matching that model number will fit your laptop just perfectly and it will save you a bundle.

Hello -
Depending upon where (in your home?) you use your Sony Vaio laptop (via WiFi?) you may need a WiFi booster or extender. Or, you may find that moving your WiFi router to another location in your home will improve your connection without diminishing the connections for other laptops used in your home.
Perhaps the information here will prove instructive:

Note: If the router needs to be moved in your home, you will probably need a technician for your Internet provider to come to your home to relocate it and connect it properly.

Apple mobile device usb drivers has malfunctioned and exceed the power limits of its hub port.
Ewwwwwww... no fun.
You should try a
"POWERED"
4 Port USB 3.0 Hub
It's important that it's a
"POWERED HUB" because you need
the HUB to supply it's
OWN power and not depend on your Apple E to provide power to your connected USB devices!
The good news is they don't cost much:
$8 on eBay
Auction: 202096902632
Note that they include the power supply! Many other HUBS don't.
Your HUB is even LESS if you pick on the USB 2.0. Version,
AND YES, each HUB MUST have it's own power supply and that's just what YOU need.
The ONE thing I didn't like about this HUB is the LED lights that are provided for each port! They are TOO bright so I opened it up and plucked all but one LED out. I also bought the 8 and 10 Port HUB versions and 'fixed' them too.
I also didn't need the switches to confuse things (accidentally turn one or more ports OFF)... so my trusty hot glue gun fixed that! All are constant ON now.

1My Sony VGN-UX230P has many
Gotcha... it MAY be a internal ribbon cable to your screen is loose (or not seated 100%) OR sometimes a cable one conductor inside the cable breaks and acts like a switch ~ providing a OK display sometimes ~ or not.
A PC repair shop will take a quick look for you for X-Bux and IF it is a loose connector/ribbon cable they MAY be able to fix it for you on the spot... A decent camera repair shop may be a answer for you too? They are very familiar with tiny screws and display repairs. Be careful though and don't spend too much...
I would not recommend you open it yourself because sometimes things go "boing" and tiny things go flying.

Sony vaio onetime password
You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :-

Try them in different order. I swear sometimes, they have a mind of their own!!
Ohhhh, same can be said for USB devices. One port won't be able to install it, another port will have the driver installed by the time you clicked on it ??
