Why cannot print important documents from windows 8.1

If it is a web page it may be protected over a graphic that will not print. Try making a screen copy and paste it into a graphics editor such as paint. Then try and print it.

My laptop is not starting or boot

BIOS updates have gotten much less risky over time, but things can still go wrong. You need to get your system model number and check the SONY website to ensure that you did in fact install the correct BIOS. This is the most common problem when the BIOS update seems to work, but reboot fails. Some BIOS updates are restricted to certain countries and/or certain sub-models. You may find a procedure that will let you reload the original BIOS and get control of the machine back. If not, you may have what we refer to a "bricked" machine. You can probably send it back for repairs, but they are usually too costly to consider. It may be too late to say this, but I learned a long time ago a good set of rules about BIOS updates:
  1. BIOS updates will not fix hardware problems that pop up - if the old BIOS was working before, the new version won't make things right.
  2. BIOS updates should only be considered if you are upgrading hardware (and in some cases software) and find that the original BIOS does not support it. Ensure that the new one DOES support it before updating.
  3. The golden rule of BIOS updating is.....if the machine ain't broke....don't fix it. A perfectly functional machine will not function more perfectly with different code. The risk isn't worth the some unknown potential benefit.

How do I create exponents on the Sony Vaio keyboard?

re you allowed to just type x^y? As in x being the root and y is the exponent? If not, and if you're using Microsoft Word, type the number you want to do. Highlight the exponent and press Ctrl, Shift, and = at the same time. That should do the trick.

In my sony vaio lappy my dvd writer is not working any solution

You probably have a Windows O/S on your Vaio. You can open *Device Manager* and check to see if your DVD drive is shown and doesn't have a red or yellow exclamation mark on it. It it has such a mark then it's got a problem. You can right click on it and choose *properties* either way and you should have a properties dialog box open up that will tell you if the device is working properly or not. If it's not working properly it could be the device drivers (software) got corrupted, deleted or lost. The dialog box should give you the option to update, roll back or re-install the drivers. Or, if the device spins up but does nothing in the way of reading or writing, try cleaning the laser lens with a cotton Q-tip slightly damp with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. These lasers can get dusty and thus malfunction. You can check in File Manager. If the drive does not show in File Manager then it has a connection problem or it's dead. Good luck!

How to fix a Sony Vaio that has a black screen?

Try removing the ram chips and if you can get to it the button battery. Wait a few minutes then put it all back together and boot. If the issue was with the BIOS that will reset it.

My sony laptop needs to bypass the log on password

This can usually be achieved but firstly you would have to prove the laptop belongs to you and isn't stolen - A Sony laptop will usually have a Microsoft Windows operating system and passwords can usually be changed using a 'boot' cd or password recovery disc (I'm presuming you haven't created a password recovery disc or you wouldn't have posted your question on fixya) - Download a boot cd and burn it to disc using another computer - set the start-up options on the locked laptop to 'boot from cd first' (You'd need to press one of the keys as soon as your laptop begins booting up to get into the BIOS or SETUP so you can choose this option - it might be shown on screen or you can Google it to find out which key to press) - Once you've booted from the cd instead of from the operating system on the laptop's hard drive you should follow the instructions on screen - then take out the cd, change the boot settings back to 'internal hard drive first', and re boot into Windows
