My HP laptop space key sticks. How do I solve
You can remove it and clean it out, or find out if the spring is broken. You have to be careful though, there are some small parts and if you lose them, then its game over for your space bar.
You will want to use a flat head screw driver, or if you have long nails, you can use them to pry each side gently. It may reqire a little bit of force, but be sure that you have control over your hands motion or you could snap it or bend it.
It may just be dirty, you can use a damp cloth to remove any grime, but just be sure not to let a single drop get into the circuitry.
Once you need to put it back, normally you can just snap each end back on to the levars but be sure it is lined up correctly or else the little plastic clips may break. If there is something wrong with the levars or the latchs, then you may need to replace them. Let us know and we might be able to help further.

no PC stated. no OS XP?

if yes, the try a barrowed keyboard, if that works bingo. no?
if not the OS is messed up or the keyboard driver is messed
all software, that is.
? this is shifted "/" so does "/" work you never said what works and what not.?
try all USB ports yet< bet first.
then barrow a keyboard.
or if all that fails, then we go to windows control panel
and click device manager
the right click the keyboard, line and pick update. driver
if connected to the internet, bingo, happens PnP, plug and play.
if XP or VISTA , Microsoft does not support those now.
OMG1: (oh my golly)
that is a very old PS2 keyboard, from 20 years ago!!!
why in the world use any PS2 keyboard in the year 2017? when USB just works. (universally) !!!
PS2 must match your unstated PC
so yours is HP KBD., is it plugged in to a DELL or non HP PC??
bingo WRONG.
why post any PC forum lacking 2 things
what PC.
what OS.
we only see PS2 post here on rare days.
its dead technology , long dead.
why not buy a pc from Goodwill sory. for $20
that is w7 and newer, 2009 (October or newer)
and avoid all relic PCs/
10 x better support you will get.
more actually.
the PS2 keyborads long long ago, generic
has switch to change it from the targeted IBM, PC 1987
seen here, clearly
what HP uses here, IVE NO CLUE nor care.

Filter keys means
Filter Keys is not a function of your specific keyboard; rather it is a feature of Windows.
FilterKeys is a keyboard feature that instructs the keyboard to ignore brief or repeated keystrokes.
--Using FilterKeys, you can also slow the rate at which a key repeats when you hold it down.
To turn off FilterKeys, clear the Use FilterKeys check box.
1.Open Accessibility Options.
2.On the Keyboard tab, under FilterKeys, clear the Use FilterKeys check box.

Instead of getting the @ symbol when I press shift +2 i get "
you need to hold down ctrl and function on the left side of your keyboard, and then hit the shift key on the right side of your keyboard. Then let go of right shift while still holding down the control and function keys, and then hit right shift again.
these blue keys are french keys. if you change your keyboard settings to english US or UK, it will get rid of the blue functions, but for some reason, they tend to turn themslves back on again after time. Most likely due to automatic updates followed by an auto restart. Also, I find that the issue only arises if I am in my hotmail account.....no issue in Word docs.

computer keyboards can have faults in several ways, but the most likely is liquids being spilt on them, causing them to do odd things or to just stop working completely. There's loads of people having problems with this series of keyboards. With some keyboards the speed is wrong for them being checked (USB versions) and you can easily type faster than the keyboard controller can respond so it just goes nuts :-(Notably, lots of laptops have a problem handling fast typing and tend to throw the cursor around or mis and add random letters.Try a different keyboard just in case. Check its wire and connections for breaks/damage. Plug it into another USB port if possible some towers give lower power/resources to some USB ports - especially ones on the front of tower cases. Also, some odd BIOS's allow you change the typing rate/speed (usually quite old ones though). If that value doesn't match your keyboard enough you can have problems.

Need help with 2 letters appearing with 1
Connect a different keyboard and give it a try. Sounds like your keyboard is bad. It could also be that you need to clean out the keyboard. Disconnect the keyboard and blow it out using canned air or from a air compressor. You can also go as far as spraying the keys with contact cleaner for electronics.

This sounds like your "Z" key is being held, or stuck, down. If you insert a toothpick into the space between the Z and A,S,X or shift. Then gently pry it up. If you do this with to much vigor, the key will pop off. Usually you can pop them back on.

Although having a laptop is certainly convenient, the all-in-one peripheral scheme (mouse, keyboard and speakers) can make individual repairs difficult, and a non-working keyboard can ruin the value of the entire package. However, there are some practical steps you can take to fix a laptop keyboard.
1.Diagnose the problem. When you press a key on your laptop keyboard, does it get stuck? Does the computer respond to your inputs? In almost all of these cases, the solution will lie in opening up your notebook's keyboard. However, to prevent extra work, press every key (do this in a word-processing program) and see which keys are affected. If every single key on a keyboard does not respond, you might have a software issue, which may require specialized help.
2.Clean the area around the keys that are not working. A damp lint-free cloth should be used to clean the surface of the affected keys. If you have stuck keys, use a Q-tip to clean under them, but take care not to pry the keys up, as this could result in further damage to your keyboard.
3.Remove the keys that are not working. Do this by grabbing some fingernail clippers and pulling out the hook-like fingernail cleaner extension. Use the small hook to gently pull the key up , which will expose a collapsible plastic hinge (commonly known as a key retainer) as well as a small rubber circular piece. Gently lift both of these pieces out of the keyboard.
4.Wipe the keyboard sensors clean with a dry cloth. The sensors are the little silver foil-like strips you see after your key components have been removed. Be very careful wiping these down--if they are damaged, they are very expensive to replace. Just gently dab it with a dry lint-free cloth to remove any dust/crumbs/particles that are interfering with your keyboard's functionality. Do not moisten the cloth with water or cleaning solution, as this heightens the risk for damage.
5.Reassemble and replace the keys. Simply fit the key retainer as well the little rubber piece together in the way you found them and then firmly press the key cap back in place.
6.Test your keyboard. Open a word-processing program and then press the replaced keys. If they still don't work, try restarting your computer, or activating a system restore point (to ensure that the problem is not software-related). If the keyboard is still not working, then you may want to think about taking the computer to a repair shop or replacing it altogether. (Keyboard repairs are very expensive.)
I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

Myspacebarisnotworking
Greetings,
You may have some small item underneath the spacebar. The spacebar will "pop up" if you use a screwdriver or something to pry it up from the keyboard. Insert it near the B on the top side of the spacebar and pry up towards you. Clean out from underneath and reattach it.
