Which wire needs to run to the battery to charge
Being unfamiliar with mowers, the battery seems accessible. So there is no need for having a socket or appoint other ways.
Trickle chargers have both cables, one with small clamps for the terminals and one permanent pigtail cable. The cable with plug that can be installed is always bolted onto the terminals.
Ground wires should be a distinct green/yellow color and the main negative is a thick one that just bolts onto engine or frame. A test will then find 12 Volt wires of those that are life when the engine is switched off. I don't have high hopes of those being many and charge is performed at maximum of 1/10 the battery Amp at most, usually it is much less like hundreds of Milliamp?re. Especially when a full charge is being reached. Also for metering the Voltage a battery installed cable is the right choice. It determines charge on tenth of a Volt. 12 Volt batteries are close to being depleted and 12,8 up to 13,2 Volt are full. Charging with the engine running would show 14,2 Volt on a motorcycle.
My John Deere f725 starts up but the blade won't engage
Check fuses, see attached pic. If fuses are intact then further troubleshooting is required. Check the PTO switch connector is properly attached and not burnt or melted (common failure in older machines).Same for the electric clutch connector. You can make an audible test of the PTO clutch with key ON engine OFF. Turn ignition switch to run position but do not start the engine, then move the PTO switch ON. The clutch should make an audible pop sound. If no sound then use an automotive style test lamp or a DMM to check for power at the clutch. If power (batt +) and ground (batt-) at the clutch, then disconnect the connector at the clutch and measure resistance of the clutch winding. Typical resistance is 2-4 ohms. If it reads 0 ohms, reverse leads and re-measure. If it reads open (infinity) then likely clutch winding has failed or wire has broken.
John Deere GX85 won't restart after shutdown
I assume the starter is dead after it's sat a few minutes, that's what your talking about when you say it won't turn over. If this is the case use a test light or multimeter at the starter hot (red) lead, see if power is getting to it, if it is the starter has issues, if not ,start tracing back from the starter to the safety switches all the way back to the key to figure out where the issue is, this should be very easy to diagnose.
